Johanne's Journal, 22 Nov 11

I woke up Monday morning with the crud, aching all over and FREEZING. I got out of bed and couldn't stop shivering. I thought, "Boy, I must be really sick!" and then I looked at the temperature on my clock. It was 61 degrees in the bedroom. I went to take a look at the thermostat and it was set at 68, but it also said it was 61. So I turned it up and went to listen for the furnace to go on. It didn't. I hate to call my son when something is wrong with the house. He has so much on his plate, and here I am, just one more problem. I'd like to just be his mother, not a pesky tenant. Anyway, the furnace people couldn't get her until today. I've been dressed in thermals, plus a sweat suit, plus a funny woolen hat with ears (yes, I'm 67, but my favorite hat has ears! I look like a berserk, shriveled apple doll.) Thank goodness, it didn't turn out to be the furnace, which is very old. It was a burnt out circuit and all they had to do was pull it out of the circuit breaker box and replace it. I'm back down to one layer of clothing now and the house is the nice, toasty 70 degrees it usually maintains when the thermostat is set at 68. As for the crud and the achy? That hasn't gone away, but I'm not all shivery any more.

Thank goodness you now have heat and it didn't require a new furnace! I hope you aren't coming down with a bug. They are trimming trees around here (I call my area, Narnia) and being 75% forest, this is on-going. Our power has gone out for two days now for 3 hours at a time. It is most annoying when I need to get laundry done or run the vacuum... but on the other hand, I have finished two books partially by lantern-light. LOL! I wanted to wish you a happy Thanksgiving and send send you and your family my blessings.
