This morning I did:
growingannanas - 30 MIN NO JUMPING ALL STANDING HIIT With Weights - No Repeat, Low Impact Home Workout

Quite a nice one. My weights were a bit too heavy for some of the things she was doing so I just did chest presses and skull crushers on the floor when she did overhead presses and alternated on others where I just couldn't handle both weights at once. Still a great workout though and I felt so good afterwards. Hope the doms won't be as hectic as last week. Pity I didn't manage one on Sunday and this is my first one for the week. But, I haven't been feeling quite right so I'm just glad we did a 45min walk every day since Sunday.

Calories last week ended at 1820 daily average. So, I will work on decreasing that this month. It looks like this week will just be a maintain. Looking at my graph for the year it actually looks like I've pretty much between maintaining around this weight for over a year now. I would say I'm frustrated, but it's really not that bad. What I need is some more consistency, which I know I've been lacking lately. I thought summer would be the time for getting back to it in earnest, but I've just been in such a slump and let myself get engulfed by work - not sure how to describe it. I just let it take over my life for a bit and convince myself it's a good thing. In lots of ways it is, but letting it throw my routine out is just not good.

Anyhoo, because I'm changing things up a bit today I had some protein powder with a banana and a bit of cereal this morning. Previously I was breaking my fast at noon and having a giant bowl of oats with various things mixed in, which is very satisfying, but I just felt like some seeded bread with humus for a change - would have loved some avo, but it was not to be.

After listening to the talk on Protein recently - thanks Anne! - I think I need to aim for closer to 84g per day rather than the 70g I was trying for - and not really reaching. So I'll be getting some new plant based protein powder and perhaps a protein bar to take daily soon. Not looking forward to the research involved tbh, but needs must... My last tub has lasted a good few months, but I'm really sick of the vanilla flavour now. I would prefer something unflavoured, but I realise that could also be horrible sandy weird paste, but then at least I can flavour my oats with fruit, peanut butter or cocoa powder and soya yoghurt, which has enough sugar in it anyway rather than having artificial sweeteners I don't really like.

Hope you're all having a great Wednesday! xxx

Interested to know what protein powder you choose and why. I've been experimenting with pea protein mixed into porridge. It's very different to whey. But I've come round to liking it.

I wish protein powders tasted better. How do usually use yours? I have a couple to get through, but I never reach for mine. No matter what I do, it tastes powdery.

It was interesting, wasn't it, Nikina? My very long-term plans are to not become frail in my 60s, 70s, 80s even 90s so I was very interested to hear what the professor said about protein intakes in these age groups and about how even a little resistance training gives these groups a huge advantage.

Bearwood, I haven't had a chance to look online properly yet. What brand are you using and how are you finding it? So far I'm leaning towards My Protein (I think it's called) - and then I was going to choose between pea or soya - but leaning towards the pea (or a blend) as well.

Thanks ellieree! Wishing you a strong month too!💪💕

Yup, Suma - I think they all are a bit powdery and some taste very artificial, but I usually mix it into my oats. I've never just had it as a drink or in a smoothy. I don't mind the consistency and adding some soya yoghurt usually makes it creamier. Hope you can find a way you use them up. Some people make baked protein oats (I've tried once) or pancakes.

Anne - yes, it was very interesting and there's alot of conflicting info online so it was good to hear what the actual recommendation was. I hope to be able and active as I age as well and I believe lifting weights is a big part of that. Thank you for sharing the program!!!💪😊💕

Nikina, I'm currently trying out pea protein from naturesbest.co.uk which claims to be made in UK, but only sold in small tubs and expensive. MyProtein is probably fine. You might also look at pulsin.co.uk, bulk.com and peaksupps.co.uk.

I think soya has a better essential amino acid composition than pea protein. But some people have intolerances to soya. You could also try mixing pea and rice proteins 50:50 which balances the amino acid profile.

Thanks so much for all your info Bearwood! The naturesbest one looks really good so I might also give it a go. Just might check out some of the others first as well before I order. Great stuff! Thank you! xxx

That’s a good idea…I’ll have to try it in oats soon. I prefer my porridge with salt, so hadn’t thought of using the powder in it.

I like salt in my porridge too, but I'm trying to reduce the amount of salt I add to foods. Pea protein has an unavoidable high salt content. So combining pea protein and oats works well for me.

Suma, I usually add a pinch of salt to my oats too. Let me know what you think once you've tried it.

Aah - I didn't realise the salt content of pea protein was high, Bearwood. Will keep that in mind - thanks for mentioning!
