DMV TIME LINE

Lisa's Four Interim Drivers Licenses 10-11-10 to present day - over 5 months!

Interim Drivers License. (This License is issued as a License to drive a Motor Vehicle: It does not Establish eligibility for Employment, voter registration, or public benefits.

Appointment on 10/11/10 at the Department of Motor Vehicles because my drivers license was to expire on my birthday 10/19/10. I paid 31.00, was finger printed, and took a new picture. Business as usual although I was pleasantly surprised that they let me smile in my picture because my daughter recently had her renewal done and was told not to smile because the new camera's were having trouble with the new and improved security card pictures when people smiled. This first Interim Drivers License expired on 12-09-10 .

My second:
On 12/3/10 I called and spoke with a D.M.V. technician who issued me another temporary Drivers License that expired on 1/31/11. She stated that she wasn't sure about the delay but it happens sometimes and told me a story about a man who received his drivers license the very next day after calling in to the D.M.V. . We laughed and said, “ I will probably get my official drivers license before I get the extension but that didn't happen.

My third:
On 1/14/11 and reached another sympathetic technician who could only let me know that my drivers license had not been mailed, but offered me a D.M.V. Phone number to call and perhaps they could let me know more!!. I called this D.M.V. Number on several occasions and only receive a busy signal. This expired on 3/14/11

The Sacramento Bee had an article on the 22nd of February that offered this email address:
On 2/22/10, and 2/25/10 I emailed D.M.V. At loddidsp@dmv.ca.gov. And never received a reply. (attachments)

My fourth:
I called D.M.V. On 2/25/2011 and spoke with a technician and asked if he could please look further into my situation because making all of these phone calls and sending emails was taking a lot of time and effort on my part and quite honestly I was getting exhausted and felt like I was in some kind of a void. He understood my frustration but could only tell me that my drivers license was not mailed.

The Sacramento Bee had another article saying the D.M.V. Woe should be over by the 11th of March so when that date came and went I decided to email channel 13 on March 18, 2011 and see if someone could help me. On March 21st On The Money, Mike Luery contacted me and we set up an interview for 3/29/2011 to see what we can do :)

My fifth and final?

I called D.M.V. Yesterday 3/28/11 to check on the status of my card before our interview because with my luck my card was probably in today's mail. I spoke with a technician and she told me that my drivers license had not been mailed, and that I need to go in person to the D.M.V. for an interim Drivers license. I was taken aback that they were now asking us to go back to the D.M.V. because they had been sending these out to me since December. I explained that my new extension didn't expire until the 25th of May and I was just calling to see if my drivers license had been mailed yet. I let her know how unhappy I was to hear that I may have to take time off from work and go back to the D.M.V. For perhaps another extension. She put me on hold and she came back and this time she gave me some information. She said that her notes said that it appears that my drivers license wasn't one that needed to be remade or have any errors. She said if I don't get my card in the next couple weeks that that I have to go to the D.M.V. And Re-do the process. I asked her if it was just me or was it thousands or hundreds of people who were effected this drastically? She almost didn't want to answer but in a quiet voice said, “just a few hundred”. Let me tell you that I am one of the” just a few hundred “ and I am not at all happy having to make another appointment with the D.M.V. , take more time off from work, and all the time and frustration over these past 5 months. I feel they should at least give me an apology and pay back the 31.00 for all of this inconvenience. Perhaps this is why people were instructed not to smile in there photos! TOWANDA!!!!!
