TMI alert! Beware!!!

I've had a bad rash on my very voluminous bottom for over a year. We have successfully treated it in the past with yeast medications, both oral and topical. It keeps coming back. Six weeks ago, my Dr. put me on yeast medications, the kind that are supposed to work with one dose. The rash was so bad, so extensive, so ITCHY, he prescribed 10 doses, one every three days for 30 days. The rash got worse. I was scratching myself bloody in my sleep. I've never itched like that before. I went back two weeks ago and he put me on a heavy duty antibiotic and prescription antibiotic cream along with a prescription cortisone cream. At some point, the infection had turned bacterial. I'm on my second round of antibiotics and it's finally healing nicely. The itching has stopped. (I think itching may be as bad as pain!) Anyway, apparently the infection had gotten into my whole system and caused a general malaise, including my mood.

I'm feeling much better. I'm back to weaving. I'm able to do more than just wanting to climb back in bed and hibernate. In other words, I seem to be functional again.

Hey, Is, how's that for sharing? LOL!

Hey dear...so sorry you had such a time...I had a rash on my arms from all the wooly insulation we took down..The girl at the pharmacy told me to put baby powder on it as it kept itching and it really worked to keep it from oozing..I tried every thing...so next time and I hope there isn't...try some baby powder for the itchiness...Love and Hugs...:O)

It seems odd that yeast would be the cure for a rash but I'm not a doctor. If the baby powder doesn't work try that cream for diaper rash. I use to use that in the summer when I would get heat rash. I hope those antibiotics knock out that infection.

I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this so long, keep a close check on that infection they can get serious when they are the results of something else. I had poison ivy rash one time all over my body and thought I would never get well. We had bought a house and there were vines growing all over a little patch of trees in the back yard. I thought it was kudzu and went to work pulling it up by the arm fulls well I got rid of it but boy I paid for it so I do know how bad an itch can be.

Bren, I've used medicated baby powder after every shower for years. It keeps me from getting a yeast infection in the places you'd expect to get yeast after losing a lot of weight. In this case, the powder didn't help. It exacerbated the problem. Apparently, this was a bacterial infection I had picked up somewhere. We didn't test, but think it might have been impatiego, from the seriousness of the itch. It's healing, at last, THANK GOODNESS! Love you back!

FOL, he didn't treat the rash WITH yeast. He treated it AS yeast. He did that first because if it WAS yeast, an antibiotic would have made it worse. It turned out that treatment made it worse. That's when he changed to an antibiotic. I had already tried Desitin, which didn't make a dent. The antibiotics are clearing it up nicely, but I'm on my second round. 10 days didn't do it. :-)

Addie, this was very like the itch you get with poison ivy without the blisters and multiplied by two. LOL. Once, I did the same thing you did. I attacked the honeysuckle taking over some antique rose bushes, got all cut up by the thorns and, literally, inoculated myself with poison ivy sap. It was February. There were no leaves. I didn't used to be allergic to it. I'm only allergic to poison ivy now when it's dormant and you can't tell what it is. :-/ Yes the itch is VERY similar!

I have had yeast infections before .... I know the itching will drive you insane. So ... if the meds didn't nip it in the bud ... it has to be bad! I don't know how you functioned, Bonnie. You had to feel as if you were going mad. Antibiotics can also cause the yeast infections ... had that happened to me, too, after a bout with bronchitis. I get a lot sun exposure in the warmer weather and I get sun allergies on my upper left arm if I go sleeveless too many times. The itching is so intense it wakes me up from a deep sleep. It won't go away until almost middle winter. Weird, huh?

Hey Sandy, it may have started as yeast loooooong ago, but it turned bacterial. The antibiotics are working. It was so deep seated, it's taking two rounds of meds to fix it, but the itch is finally gone, thank goodness. And yes, I would wake up from a deep sleep scratching myself bloody. No joke! My mom gets bad sun poisoning in summer. I think you are the only other person I know who does. Yes, weird.
