My energy level held up very well today even though it was some what stressful at work today. I need to face a fear this coming Friday and plan on trying to stay positive while I navigate up those twisty turns mountains into a beautiful campsite we will be staying at over the holiday weekend.

Imitating the Little Engine That Could - by Sue Patton Thoele

When I believe I can't, I'm right. When I believe I can, I am also right. Remember the children's book the Little Engine that Could? It's about a little engine who suceeded in pulling a train up a steep hill when other, larger engines had failed. The little engine made it to the top because she kept repeating to herself as she struggled, "I think I can, I think I can". (I'll replace it with an even more positive statement - I know I can, I know I can)

Tracy's mother read her the little engine book often because as a child, she had a crippling habit of saying "I can't". As an adult like many of us, she sometimes regressed to that old pattern. One day, upon returning from a week out of town, she found herself extremely stressed, almost paralyzed by the amount of work waiting for her. She tuned in to her inner dialogue and found she was repeating over and over. "I can't get all of this done. I have too much to do. "Her subconscious was getting the message from those thoughts. "Red alert! It's time to panic."

Becoming aware of her stress-inducing talk allowed her to change it to, "I have all the time and energy I need to accomplish everything I want to do." She didn't believe it at first, but knowing the process does work, she kept repeating her new, empowering statement aloud. In the space of a few minutes, Tracy's body relaxed, her mind cleared, and she was able to work much more efficiently. And yes, she told me, everything eventually got done.

Although it takes tremendous courage to change old thought patterns, we can help ourselves do so by adopting the little engine's phrase, "I think I can, I think I can", when we feel helpless or overwhelmed. Keeping our self-talk empowering, not panic producing, helps us do what we want to do and enhance our peace of mind immeasurably.

I have all the time I need to accomplish
everything I want to do.

I can, I know I can. TOWANDA!!!
