FullaBella's Journal, 28 Jan 13

Wow - 3pm and I'm tired so I'm gonna just sit here and journal and run out the clock. It won't take much - my laptop / netbook is running at the speed of smell. Earlier I grew so impatient with it I picked it up & shook it like an etch-a-sketch. FYI - doesn't help - just in case you were thinking of trying it for your own sometime. I tell ya, these things definitely fall under the 'use it or lose it' skill set.

Well, it may have been Jan28 for the rest of the world but it was Thanksgiving here at Bellawood. MH asked for a roasted hen & dressing for Sunday but then he didn't feel up to it yesterday. He asked if I could do it today. I answered, 'No problem.'

After over two decades of marriage he knows the English to Bella translations. 'No' means 'no' but 'No problem' means 'are you freaking nuts?' but while he can pick up the subtleties of my language he's also immune to the sarcasm. So early this morning I was in that kitchen making the dressing to stuff that bird so he could have it for lunch.

All of this inbetween running the shop, catching up inventory and the gazillion things I do every day ~ in fact, I just now finished my own lunch and I feel sorry for any customer may come in with the expectation that I'll smile at them as they'll be greeted with a grill full of spinach. I pity the next person who comes in anyway as it's been 'stupid phone call day' and I'm already on edge.

I'm ready to decrease my daily intake for a week or so ~ I feel I've had enough 1500-1700 days to get Ms. Metabolism off her butt to give it a go. I'm actually toying with the idea of the 8/16 fast but everytime I try to work it out on the clock with my schedule it ends up being 9/15 or 10/14 and I start wondering 'does an hour give or take really freaking matter?' I'm just glad I'm not traveling and crossing time zones as I did in the past - I'd lose what is left of my mind.

Birdwatch continues. I heard them singing and mocking me even at 2am. It's been a bit of a sleepless night. While I did take the oath to continue feeding once it started, I'm drawing a line in the sand with my fine feathered friends. If the contents of those feeders 'mold' before they start dining, I'm done. This ain't no short order kitchen for wayward sparrows.

On the other hand, my lawn is coming back. MH kept insisting I needed to let the 'cut grass' lay on the lawn instead of raking it.. mumbling something about ground cover blah blahditty blah. I actually listened my way into a big old muddy mess of dead grass. Last weekend when the weather was nice I raked that crap off of there and what do you know, my grass is growing! My little furbaby will be so happy to have her lawn carpet back to squat on. Must remember the veteran wife code: when in doubt smile, nod, and do what I know to be best.

Well, I should have quit while I was behind. A customer came in, asked for a huge discount, I gave it to him, and he said he still needed to think about it. That's it, I'm closing for the day.

Show's over.. nothing else to see here .. move along...

Just think of all the calories we are going to burn doing yardwork after the winter is over! And it sounds like the birds should be well established by then, so you will get the nests and babies on top of it. I hope those pounds just drop off of you as ratchet your calories back down - you continue to inspire me!

Hope your day is better today. Wow grass growing already, you must be in one of those nice warm southern states.

Yes, Paula, I do think about the calories burned doing yardwork :-) But much like 'playing with the dog' there's no 'activity' choice listed in the FS exercise choices. Ah well. It's taking everything I've got to restrain myself from filling the yard 'now' - while I do live in a nice warm southern state (70 today!) we'll surely have more ice & snow within the month. I actually ended my journal too soon ~ have considered putting this on my 1/29 but decided to put it here -keep the days in perspective. As I was venting to MH about a specific customer in the shop, I removed my alarm button from around my neck and I GUESS I hit the panic button by accident. It's a silent alarm, of course. So we rec'd the call from the alarm company that 'the police are on their way' so GREAT - had to phone them and tell them 'false alarm' but it was too late. So I had to walk out of the store to be met by law enforcement with drawn shotguns (not knowing if I'm being held hostage) and then bring them in to walk the premises (which is a good thing in case MH was being held hostage.) So, excitement, aye?? I've been through this before - probably the first time 'dressed' - our local law has seen me in my bathrobe plenty. ANYWAY ... after that ... the nonsense of the day just made the noise from the TV that much louder so I grabbed my Kindle and went outside to my deck, slipped into my zero gravity lounge chair, and read everyone elses journal. My little furbaby laid on my lap and it was a very nice end to a day filled with turmoil!

Bella - sounds as if your day was very EVENTFUL. I am glad to read that you got some quiet 'down' time in your swing. I do understand the loudness. There are times that I feel like my nerves must be at full alert and the tv is way too loud...not to mention that DH typically plays it way louder than I would prefer.

I hear ya Jaime - that's nearly every day because he IS hard of hearing and it was the Family Guy & Simpsons and I just thought 'bad weather is a comin' - go enjoy the day!'
