In this day and age, we are also seeing an increase in what some call “orthorexia,” a condition where an individual becomes obsessively fixated with high-quality food or healthful eating, to the point that the relationship becomes destructive, or interferes with daily life. An individual with orthorexia might be highly restrictive in his or her eating, have a large number of “rules” regarding healthy foods, experience anxiety when presented with food that is perceived as unhealthy, and may struggle to eat in social settings where food preparation is out of their control.
