OMG! I'm certifiable!!!

After the rest of the brush got cut, there were still grape clusters growing up a clump of silver maples that aren't getting cut down. I SWORE I wasn't going to try to get them, but I went out Tues. evening and pulled as many as I could out of the trees. I got another three lbs. I finished stemming the 1/16"-1/8" grapes at 2 a.m. Wed morning. I got a total of 7 quarts of miniscule grapes. And, yes Sandy, I actually finished stemming the lot! I went ahead and mashed and boiled them and set them to drain. I got to bed at about 3:30 a.m. Wed Morning, later, I pressed the boiled grapes and ended up with about 9 cups of juice. That's enough for 3 batches of jelly. My whole house is now covered in spots of sticky, dark purple blots and my hands, nails and cuticles are permanently dyed. LOL!

These grapes all came from the east side of my garage. There used to be a beautiful, 15', perfectly round, apple tree there. It bore a ton of apples every fall. About 10 years ago, it got a bad case of fire blight and died. All of the brush, made up of sumac, black walnut, mulberry, silver maple AND GRAPES, had grown up since that time. That end of the garage is now clear with the exception of a pretty clump of silver maple that I decided to leave. What I didn't know, since the very round, FAT, apple tree blocked the view before, and then the brush, is that there is a very ugly, old, galvanized shed, about 20' behind and to the east of my garage, on the property behind mine. It's in direct line-of-site from my patio. Ugh! This used to be farm property. The silver maples are too slender and tall to block the view. LOL!

I lost about 1/2 the weight I put on during that four weeks I wasn't keeping track. I'm back, my friends. I won't let that happen again. I'm back over 50 lbs lost. I still have 98 lbs to go! It's been over a year and a half since I lost any weight. It's time to get the rest of this off. I expect you all to kick my butt into action!

I have to run to DMV to get auto tags this morning. I'll visit journals and catch up later today. Toodles!

I'm thankful for:

Waking up!
Finally having all those grapes prepared.
Losing weight this week.
Rain. We finally got a little.
My warm, furry Velcro, putting my hand to sleep. LOL!
FS, without which I would be back up to my starting weight + some!
My FS buddies!!!

Grape jelly was my VERY favorite as a kid. When you have a chance you will have to take a look at the blog called Velvet & Linen. The woman has an eye for everything old and you might get some ideas on how to play up your view of the old galvanized shed.

Home made grape jelly is the best, I made some strawberry jam last week, had enough to make 12 pint jars!

Tracy, The juice is thick and dark and the grapes, themselves, were sweet and firm. The jelly SHOULD be wonderful. As for the shed, yes, I guess I could employ "magic". LOL!

Neptune, thanks for the blog rec. I'm going to go take a look. I'm not sure, though, since it's on someone else's property, that I can do much.

Oh, Angel, I also love strawberry. This is my very first foray into making jelly. I'm hoping it's wonderful. I'm using a low sugar recipe and Florida Crystals. I'll let you know how it turns out and how many pints I get.
