It was part of my leftover burger. I scraped off the toppings, and weighed it on a scale. This is what 5 oz of meat looks like. I guess when they said it was 12 oz cooked patty they were wrong. I ate 1/4 thinking I had 3 oz, but it was probably less.

I asked them whether it was precooked or cooked. They said cooked.

I think you are comparing the 12 oz raw weight, to the weight of the cooked piece pictured. I haven't weighed ground beef before and after cooking, but cooked chicken breast weighs about 75% of its raw weight.

Worked in restaurant for many years. I am guessing whomever told you that is simply mistaken. You never know how much will cook out, so it would be hard to portion to make a specific post-cooking weight. Burgers are either ordered for a supplier pre pattied or portioned there to a specific weight. This precooked weight is how they are described when sold.

I'll second what seiler2k said... meat is sold by uncooked weight to restaurants, just like it is in the store. Cooked weight can vary with cooking temp, fat content, etc., and in any case the restaurant's not weighing things after they're cooked. So I will also guess that the server just didn't know.

On a related note, I stopped bothering to look at the raw weight of my chicken breasts because the FS entry has cooked weight, so I just go by that now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I was fed wrong info then it was. 3/4 lb burger from Red Robin. Good to know for the future! Thanks for your help!

Sounds like a pain in the butt, an off meal won’t undo everything.

FS database has both cooked and raw chicken - if you are using cooked weight the calories you log will be too high.
