Texasgranny6's Journal, 31 Oct 18

Fasting a.m. BS = 145; weight = 174.1. Not happy with either reading. Will drink more water and eat more fat today. Was looking forward to my Dr. visit tomorrow, telling him I lost 16 lbs, but I'm up again! It is probably adjusting to less diabetic meds, so hope the up trend goes away soon. BS 108 at 9:10 pm. much better!
Totals: 1863 cals; 74/11/15 macros; net carbs 42.96. I ate rye bread today, really sent the net carbs up!

as you get med's reduced or removed you will have to be more strict on your carbs. no cheats, things with higher carbs will effect you more now

Isn’t that the truth - @baskington. If my carbs don’t stay at 5% or 6% I have no success! I have to enter my food for the day in my food journal first thing in the morning or I just can’t manage! It’s worth it - no Metformin since Aug 13!

I can tell a difference.Yes, keeping the carbs down is tough. I need to plan more carefully! Congratulations Kikibee5 - no Metformin since Aug 31 is quite an accomplishment!

I went to bed last night at BS if 85. Didn't eat any snack or even drink the 1/2 cup milk I normally would have with an 85 at bedtime. Woke up this morning to BS 109. 24 higher than when I went to bed. You can do everything by the book but just remember, the pancreas hasn't read the book and besides that the pancreas and the liver are not always going to follow the rules. Just try not to stress over it all. Stress just makes it worse. Says the gal who flipped out the other morning with a BS of 165, huh?!? Had to remind myself then that the averages (A1C) are more important than the occasional highs and lows. Hang is there and give your body time to adjust. Seems the older I get (68 now) the more it (and I) resist change.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! Dropping meds isn't quite as simple as it seems!

I got this idea in my head that if I loose wait my BS will go down and I can eventually stop taking diabetes meds. Your comments are making me think this might just be possible! Thanks for your insights, Texasgranny6, BlueFront and kikibee5

I had abnormal A1c in July 2016; lost 25 lbs, changed to keto, and by December 2016 my A1c was in the normal range. I never had the T2d meds because I got it under control.

Yes, Nanofgoat, it can be done - check out Blog.virtaHealth.com Many folks on FarSecret have reduced or eliminated T2D meds! But please work with your doctor - it can be dangerous to make diet and med changes without doctor supervision.

l don't know if you saw the news on NBC but they said that WFPB (whole food plant based) diet is better for diabetes than a keto high fat. I've been on WFPB for 8 months and now I'm on my second week doing a low carb diet. I plan on doing it for 3 months and then doing labs to see which diet results in better numbers! I'll let you know! yes if you want off meds you need to change your eating habits for life as you want to get off meds for life. It really is all about choices. you can't have both. I have the same struggle having to give up things I enjoy to stop pain and brain fog. choices to be clear headed and pain free or endulge and suffer.

My annual visit to gynecologist: He agrees that Keto with 5-6% carbs is a good diet for diabetics. He is a diabetic too. He also said he has heard good things about turmeric. I was disappointed to find out my height has now shrunk to 4' 11"! I started out at 5' 1 1/2". Rannanmc, I will be interested in your comparison of WFPB and Keto.
