Being a lifetime Big Guy...I have always shunned running. Even when I was playing softball on a national level, I was still a fat guy who was athletic. I loathed running. What made it worse was a childhood of severe asthma. I spent 3 or 4 weeks at a time 4 times a year incapacitated and alone due to the illness. My parents after a few years grew extremely agitated whenever an asthma episode would arise. Trust me, it was no picnic for them ...but it was even worse for me. It always began with a trip to the hospital, weeks of being confined upright to a recliner and sucking in any and all air I could get. After 10 years of this quarterly quarantine...I finally grew out of it on most levels but I never outgrew the struggles when running and the way my lungs suffered. I even struggle when walking but not nearly as much and so I walk, and I hate every step! Today, on my quest to do 50km, 31 miles in the month of May, I can say I am on par to accomplish this goal. 20 miles so far this month. I walked 2 miles this morning and it was hard, my back, knees, feet and fatigue plagued me...but I did it. I must continue this quest and I must lose weight. I deserve it! Go me!
