Physical at the VA today - last month went to my civilian doctor, this month to my doctor at the VA. Clean bill of health with both. I like our local VA clinic, they do a fantastic job of taking the time to explain the smallest issues. Went through stress test, home monitoring harness to check my heart, various cancer screens. I guess I have to stop telling my wife she is killing me with all the demands. That just isn't going to work anymore. The only thing I was told was that my blood pressure was boarder line and I have a script for 10 MG of Lisinopril. I am pretty sure if my wife would stop nagging me the BP would go down. I keep telling her, I know what is on her list of things for me to do, I don't need to be reminded every 6 months. I'll get it done.
😎
Now where did I put the ice cream???

I went for my annual civilian physical today - doc said I was in good shape. I guess I should count myself lucky for not having any physical issues at my age but at the same time, I really wish I could get down to a weight I consider normal for me. I realize I am not in my 20's or 30's any more but that is not an excuse for being over weight. Anyone who has fought this battle with being over weight know how different you feel when you are at your best weight vs 20-30 lbs. overweight. It just feels like you are hauling a load of bricks where ever you go.

I went for a walk around Goat Island at the Falls (Niagara Falls) a couple of days ago. I was walking under this tree and saw a plague that said, planted on Arbor Day 1990. The tree was quite large which made me think - in my mind, 1990 was not that long ago but I recall as a kid thinking how long ago 20 years was - now I look at 30 years and say - oh, that was like yesterday. Funny how our perspective changes with our age.

I have not been on this site as often as I am during the winter months because when the warm weather months roll around I feel the need to take advantage of them.

In the winter it is almost like I go into hibernation - that is when I gain all the weight (especially these last couple of years) and in the warm weather I come alive again. I am thinking maybe this winter will be different because the wife is talking about taking a traveling nurse position in the south. I will probably spend time with her there. That may mark the end of the political period of my life too.

So now, as I look back, I had a period of being a professional soldier, a corporate executive, a business owner/operator, a government employee and a politician. I once read where the average person has five career paths that he pursues in his life. That could mean I am truly ready for retirement now. We shall see. Tonight is a political event and then the Memorial Day weekend we have a couple of charity motorcycle rides to take part in. Well, now I am off to the gym again – I hope all my FS friends have a productive and great day. I am with you all in spirit, even if I don’t spend as much time writing as I once did.
