Sandy701's Journal, 18 Jun 12

Didn't sleep all that well last night, but went out and walked for 3.1 miles anyway. It helped take "some" of the grumps away - LOL!

Yesterday, I had an interesting encounter at the grocery store while I was waiting in line for checkout. The woman behind me decided to let me know that I could buy eggs in the 18-count containers for a lot less than the Egglands Best I was purchasing. Well, one thing led to another and I mentioned I was on Atkins (when will I ever learn?). She told me that, oh yes, she tried that once and then asked if I had lost any weight. When I told her 89 pounds, her expression never changed!!! I might as well have said I had lost about half a pound. Later I realized she probably thought I said "8 or 9" pounds rather than "89" pounds.

But the part that really got to me was that she began to tell me how she couldn't lose weight with everything she had going on....she gets up for work at 5AM....hectic throughout the day....grabs whatever she can in the break room, like donuts, pizza, whatever's handy and fast....after work, her kids have this activity and that activity....doesn't have any time for herself until 8PM some nights and the last thing she wants to do then is cook appropriate/healthy food.

I just continued to nod and sympathize BUT.....all I could think about were all the people on this site who ARE making their WOE work and they aren't any less busy or pulled in fewer directions than she is.....they've just made their health a priority. We all have 24 hours in a day and it's truly OUR CHOICE exactly how we're going to spend them. There ARE good choices available to us....we just have to be strong enough to choose them and willing to live with the consequences of sometimes saying "no" to other foods/things/people/activities.

You know, I have a love/hate relationship with Biggest Loser, BUT....one thing they really did right this season IMO was to take a look at a number of the excuses people can make for not losing weight/staying on a WOE. The woman I was talking to probably gave me every last one that was featured on the show!

When I have a bad nights sleep, going for a walk helps to blow out the cob webs in my head, and also helps me with the grumps...

Glad you are back & with only 16 ounces left to go....!WooooHoooo!!! Yeah, that lady at the store...hmmm, I think you did good. Sometimes I think people ask, but they really don't want to know &/or don't listen as they are too busy coming up with all the reasons they do what they do...over & over again!

GG, you were one of the people I thought about (esp. with the EARLY time for getting up)when this gal was giving me the litany of why she couldn't "diet" successfully. You're every bit as busy as she is and yet, look at how well you've done! Have a great week.....how's the back?
