Sandy701's Journal, 03 Mar 12

Major rainy day here.....it all began before 6AM, according to my Nervous Nellie who was shaking the entire bed. A few storms came through, but nothing serious....just a whole lot of rain for hours!

It's down to light drizzle now, but no outdoor walking for me today. After not doing any dedicated exercise yesterday, I did a longer Stairmaster routine today.

After I finally got home yesterday, I tried to fix our dishwasher which has been acting up and flashing a light that should be on steady. By "tried to fix" I mean punching a bunch of buttons that are supposed to reset things if it's a minor issue. It wasn't, apparently. Luckily, a local repair service actually got us squeezed in....and that was me calling them at 2PM!!! Well, they need to order a new heating element which won't be in until mid-week. So you know what THAT means!!!

Before the repair service arrived, I needed to empty out the dishwasher and, of course, we had a HUGE load of dishes in there, all of which I needed to wash by hand - Yuck! Anyway, I need to get used to this again, as we'll be doing this for a few days until they can replace that element. I tell myself that this is just a sort of payback for the fact that we had a dishwasher when we lived overseas (courtesy of a previous tenant) when everyone else didn't. You should have seen the looks I got when I bought dishwasher detergent in the stores there....like I was buying gold!

Anyway, this situation is making me think back to many years ago when we could not afford a dishwasher....or much else. It makes me think of the many things we did without early in our marriage and careers. Nothing like a very teensy tiny bit of adversity to jar one back to reality and count one's blessings.

WOE is going well despite the fact that neither of us wants to dirty up any dishes!!!! Fast food is NOT an option!!!

Sandy I know all too well how scared our furry friends get during a storm. Good luck on getting dishwasher fixed. We wash dishes while in Az, but i really don't mind not much for 2 people.

Bren, I make no bones about it....I really am spoiled; just hate doing without modern conveniences. Rain has FINALLY stopped....I think we had nearly 5" of rain! Sun's out and it's a bright, but cool day. Looks like that storm system was headed your way - hope nothing too bad....

Notfast, it's just 2 people here too. I swear we make more dishes and more messes than a family with 6 kids!!!

So true, Stef. Those pots and pans take too much effort and then when you rinse them they end up sloshing water all over the place where you don't want it to go. Wish I could do something like on Hell's Kitchen where they just dirty up all the pans and then a separate "staff" comes in to clean them all up. Wouldn't that be heaven??? Even your Dan wouldn't have to clean them then.

Jenni, I'm sure there will be days when you'll need to remind yourself that you wrote..."I am so lucky to have a teen in the home" - LOL!!!! But, seriously, a teen who helps out at home even a bit is a true treasure - beyond being the treasure of being your son or daughter :)
