Johanne's Journal, 06 Feb 12

The world looks like Fairyland outside my door. There is a heavy hoar frost and fog. I wouldn't want to drive in it, but it sure is pretty.

The weekend was fun. About 400 people showed up for the event and I learned some new stuff. (It was a classroom event.) One of my good friends was announced for one of the SCA's top awards in court (a Laurel). We ate at Zio's and I tried my favorite "Greek Pasta" dish served over spinach instead of pasta. It was fabulous! I got lots of real-life hugs. Saturday was just a totally lovely day.

Now for a down note. I discovered Nutella with cocoa and skim milk! Sounds healthy, doesn't it? OMG!!! I can't ever buy another jar. LOL! It's like fudge in a jar and some of the most delicious stuff I've ever tasted. Get thee behind me Nutella!!!

I got some skinless, boneless chicken thighs to barbecue. Then I started reading the labels on the "Wall-O-Barbecue" sauces at Walmart. There wasn't ONE that the first or second ingredient wasn't High Fructose Corn Syrup until I found just ONE hidden away on the bottom shelf. I've never heard of the brand before and it just had two different flavors. The first ingredient was actually tomato puree and it had plain old sugar, molasses and honey in it. I hope it's good, because that's the one I bought.

I'm off to make breakfast and coffee so I can salute Brenda. I'll be back later. Have a great day everyone!!!

Sad thing, Johanne, about the high fructose corn syrup. You're definitely better making it yourself. I'm glad you had such a lovely Saturday. LOL on the Nutella. I've actually never tasted it.

Heather, DON'T taste it, especially if you love fudge. I will never buy another jar. OMG. LOL!!!

That's funny, Johanne. I'm not much of a chocoate person, but I do love peanut butter. That's what it is, right?

Bonnie, I have assiduously avoided the Nutella for just that reason...it just sounded toooooo good! lol I also saw that fairy land this morning...it was beautiful. I love Hoar's frost. Can you tell me the name of the BBQ sauce you found? Have a great day my sweet friend! Love ya!

Heather, they have regular Nutella, which is hazelnut butter and this, the Nutella with chocolate and skim milk. I would imagine the regular Nutella is more like peanut butter. This was, literally, fudge in a jar. I ate it with a spoon (a little, bitty demitasse spoon . . . like THAT did any good. LOL!) I ate half of it last night (I was only going to eat ONE TABLESPOON!) I finished it off for breakfast this morning. I just couldn't stop. I had NO CONTROL AT ALL! I will NEVER do that again! Heehee!!!

Stef, it's Bull's-Eye B•B•Q Sauce. I got the Sweet & Tangy. It's tomato puree, sugar, apple cider vinegar, molasses and salt. It has spices, natural hickory smoke flavor and not one ingredient I can't read or pronounce. It only has two flavors, this one and original. I found it hidden in a little niche on the very bottom shelf. About 50% of the sauces, literally, had high fructose corn syrup as the 1st ingredient. It was never lower than the second ingredient. I was in shock! The Bull's-Eye label is yellow, red-orange and black with a red-orange bull's head on it. The really odd thing is, it's made by Kraft. The Kraft "labeled" sauces were all at eye level on the shelves. They were full of nasty stuff. Why was this one isolated and hidden? I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds good.

Hey Joanne... OMG when I read about your Nutella, I did salivate. I have this thing for fudge. LOL! I will definitely not be buying that but will buy the Bulls Eye. We have the Bulls Eye stocked here and lots of different flavors... I never do a lot of barbecue but think hubby might enjoy some ribs with that on it. That's for finding that out! Glad you had a great weekend! BIG HUGS!! ~~~Sandy

Thanks, Bonnie...I will look for it. I have been making my own since I started low carbing. As for the Nutella...I am keeping my distance. Hugs and lots of love my sweet friend! I may be heading that direction later this month...maybe....:)
