Ok, I'm in finals crunch-time until mid-may. My biggest obstacle is late-night emotional stress-eating, so this is a great opportunity to build better habits.

What strategies do you guys use to avoid *stress* eating, especially late at night?

I just remind myself that if I finish what I'm doing, I can go to bed, and if I go to bed, I can get up and eat breakfast. That's the mindset that helps me the most. Tea with stevia and low cal almond milk is good too, though, and it helps keep you hydrated. :) Good luck with finals!

When I was in grad school, I smoked like a chimney and that definitely curbed my appetite! lol. I absolutely don't recommend that method, but another method that helped was pouring myself into some distraction that kept me from entertaining food. I downloaded a lot of netflix & HBO series and might watch them during study breaks. Actually, studying & watching those series during study breaks is what eventually formed in me the habit of not eating dinner. A method I still use today only it's call intermittent fasting. Food actually became a bit of nuisance. lol. You don't have to watch TV, but try inter-mixing your study time with something else that will distract your attention away from food.

Best of luck with your studies. Maybe play a hand of solitaire instead of eating for distraction. I find brushing my teeth can keep me from eating in the short-term as well.

Losing_lily: ooooh, I like that mindset. Then it's motivation to stop procrastinating, get enough sleep, AND avoid stress-eating all in one. The phrases we use in our heads really matter. Egull1: Haha, yeah, I watch a bit too much YouTube, but I do tend to eat and watch at the same time. Eating sneaks in because I feel like I can multitask with it, eating doesn't waste time because you can have your food next to the paper you're writing, where my other hobbies (jewelry-making, journaling, drawing) require actually stopping my work, and then I feel bad. Exercise might be good, though, because I can never feel like I'm wasting time while exercising. :) Thank you for your comments! JovialJ: yees, brushing my teeth. I've heard that one before. :) Thanks.
