SturgeonQueen's Journal, 17 Jan 12

Okay so I've noticed at the end of the month, when we're broke and eating the 'scraps' of what we have left in the fridge and pantry, that sometimes I don't use this site like I should. One of my big hang ups, is that my dad makes this amazing meat spaghetti sauce... and it's like his secret recipe - and I have no idea what all is in it, but we have lots of it in our freezer... so when those types of food comes out in the meals, I don't know how to record them really.

We hiked like... 8.7 miles on Sunday. Monday I didn't hit my steps, I was at like 8000 or 8500 and I just didn't make it. We made home-made crepes, it was super fun - we didn't use any sugar or splenda in the recipe, and just used greek yogurt mixed with mashed real fruit and real cocoa powder to make the fillings... So, yeah, that was kind of hard to record yesterday too.

School started today. If I'm up to it, I'm going to try to record my lunch for tomorrow tonight, since I've already made it (tuna sandwich with horseradish) and then I have no excuses.

Tonight we sacrificed two of our chickens - we have three baby chicks growing and believe one is a rooster, so another rooster had to go (one that causes trouble anyway), and one of our older hens who wasn't producing eggs anymore. Let me just say, I understand where the phrase "tough old bird" comes from. Our birds are basically free-range. They have an enclosure, but it's a large enclosure where they live with our goats, so they run around in there all day, and then sleep in a locked coop for the night, so I consider them free-range. If our neighbor wasn't a psychopath, they wouldn't even be in an enclosure, except to protect them from hawks and eagles.

ANYWAY. We have 2 duck eggs in the incubator that I really think might have a chance at hatching. It's our first try, and we're using an old fashioned, manual, zoo-grade ostrich egg incubation unit, so, we have to hand rotate and monitor humidity, etc... It's not like the fancy-pants new ones. But if we can hatch even one, I'll be so excited.

Going to do what I like to call, "Stepping it out" later - which is listening to music, while I watch TV and dance. Yes, it's my equivalent to using a treadmill, since I don't have one. Was supposed to get one, but apparently the thing was kinda finicky in working, and I wasn't going to buy a treadmill that dies the first time I use it. That's a big piece of equipment to deal with getting rid of when it doesn't work, so I'll just save up for a mediocre NEW treadmill sometime. But dancing is fun until then. As long as I'm moving.

I was kind of stressed about it being the first day of classes, no reason really, just... been off on break for a while, gotta get back into it, so I'm not sure I'm going to have the energy to workout-workout with my Wii tonight, I want to make sure I go to bed at a reasonable time because I'm trying to set my 'body schedule' to be up early in the morning and ready for classes...

Okay so I got my steps in (14000+) may try to update my exercise log on here...
