Down a half pound; first reduction since the Thanksgiving holiday. Somewhat modest loss, but as they say, "This is the first day of the rest of your life!." I'll take it. Surprisingly, the journey is not painful. I remember diets from days past, where each day was a struggle - a constant battle of the will on whether to deprive myself of everything good, and for what? So I could get there in 30 days instead of 3 months, and repeat the cycle over and over again? No thanks; I'll take the slow and moderate lifestyle change - thank you very much! There is also that added benefit of being able to tighten your muscles, and give your skin a chance to rebound as well, when you take the slower route.

Take a minute to read my latest post in Moderation Motivation. There is a whole lot more benefit to exercise than just losing the weight. Hint: You can be as slim as Cindy Crawford or Brad Pitt, and still have a fourfold risk of dying in the next 6 years. Don't panic; the good news is, you can reduce that risk without looking like Cindy Crawford or Brad Pitt. :)

A step in the right direction! It's great when the scales move after a day of indulgence. I totally understand you about this not being painful. People still ask me how my diet is going. I tell them that it is a healthy way of living, not a diet. I can't do starvation anymore. It never lasted long and the rebound weight gain was awful. I will never go back to that dark place!

I'm still waiting for my post-Thanksgiving drop, so that's good progress for you. Given the trend for the country at large, I'd count any weight you can lose during the holiday season as a victory! :-D

Thanks Guys! It's about patience and commitment - not pain. I hate it that so many people start out so strong on here and then, just disappear. I know they get discouraged or embarrassed when things don't go well, and drop off the planet; but this place is about encouragement and support. I wish some would just say, "Help!"

Totally agree ,when i started making small changes I could live with it became much easier ,I allow myself to eat what i love as long as I stay within my calories ,and many times I will pass up something because to me it isn't worth wasting a half a days worth of calories on it,yesterday I got a Cinnamon roll from bread company and after seeing it was a whopping 600 calories ,I thought to myself is it worth it?I ate half and gave the rest to my boyfriend .I think when you can do that ,look a cinnamon roll in its soft yummy center and say no thanks ,thats a true victory, its the small things like that that make a difference .I have lost 34lbs since December of last year,is it slow yes ,but I know I will get there eventually and I am not suffering and feeling deprived,189 to 155 in a year ...yep ill take it

I find it funny that I have "left" fatsecret, and came back a few times. I am not too hard on myself though. Fatsecret is a place I go to for help, just like drunks go to AA, and addicts go to NA (Narcotics Anonymous). People like us know fatsecret is a great tool or resource to come to, to get back on track. I look at my weight history and its like I have fought the same "battle" 3 times now, lol. I feel better this time though, more friends, etc.

A loss is a loss! We will happily take that! Congrats! I also would rather prefer a steady pace. That gives me more time to get use to this new lifestyle. The more I'm use to it the easier it will be to stick with it. Since this is a lifetime change I have no other healthy choice.
