DairyKing's Journal, 31 Oct 11

Slept in this morning till almost 5:00 AM. Will have to do my jogging tomight. I'm actually looking forward to it. Even though I didn't really go on a feeding frenzy this weekend, I found myself eating out more than I wanted to, because we spent the weekend going to and fro for various purposes. Here, in America at least, no matter what you order on the menu, it's really enough for two or three people. So, you get a box to go; then you end up with 15 boxes of science projects in the refrigerator. When will it ever end?!

Isn't it amazing how the world has changed? In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal. Well, back to work.

LOL... Love you thinking on acid and Prozac. Disgusting, that restaurants serve up such big portions - but, I suppose we all have the choice, to leave what we don't want / need. I wonder if this practise will change in the future, as everyone becomes more "health" focused. Some Restaurants over here, do have calories and fat content on their menu and I have certainly noticed that they have changed some of their advertising, to promote themselves as "healthy". It's not nearly enough of course, to make a dint in the obesity level. I am lead to believe the portion sizes in America are off the scale.... I do hope we don't go the same way. Programmes like Man -v- food don't help (if you don't know it, this guy sets himself a target to eat as much as possible of a particular food) it is outrageous that these type of programmes are broadcast, when everyone knows, stuffing your self to bursting is bad for your health. I'll get off my soap box now LOL. Hope you have a good jog tonight.... Fantastic that you are looking forward to it. :-)

The crazy thing is huge portion sizes aren't limited to restaurant food. I just saw a new quaker oats commercial where people - even kids - were eating out of bowls that easily held 3-4 CUPS of oatmeal. Not only was the bowl oversized but the oatmeal was heaped into it- with a few blueberries on top to reinforce that it's "healthy", naturally. Or the commercial for Special K Chocolate that tries to convince you that it's better to have a bowl of cereal that's easily 2-3 servings (plus milk) instead of just having a piece of chocolate late at night. Calorie-wise, you're honestly better off with a candy bar - possibly even TWO - than eating the portion of cereal and milk shown in the commercial. It's no wonder why people think they can't be satisfied with a reasonable amount anymore- everything we see leads us to believe that we should be eating several times what the true portion size is.

I love that "Man versus Food" show. I keep watching to see if he is going to explode. LOL. And then there is that show where there is nothing the guy won't try to eat. Yuk! Yes, you are right; American has gone off the scale with portions. America has become a lot more heath conscious, but the fast food restaurants are still cashing in on our lack of discipline.

Hey, it's your IT "guy" friend. lol. Have a good run this evening. I too have to work out this evening, although I'll leave the running to you. When I go out to eat now I ask if they have half orders. You'd be surprised how many restaurants do it. They don't advertise it but they'll do it. It saves me calories for my snack :-), room in my fridge and cash. Win all the way around.

Thanks for the great tip! I've never thought of asking for that instead of a doggie bag. I am glad my "IT Guy" friends don't look like you; I would be questioning my sexual persuasion! LOL.
