Big Boy Optimus's Journal, 12 Mar 16

My father will be 60 years old in April and my mom will be 59 years old in June but they are very unhealthy and have gained lots of body fat from their decades of bad eating. Both have health issues and are taking medication daily. After really difficult negotiations using my own results as proof and fact, they agreed to begin their journey of losing weight.

Dad always said his weight was 96kg. . . yeah probably back in 1996 it was! LOL! He weighed in last week at 101.9kg. Mom weighed in at 78.9kg.
I realized I need to break them into this journey with the easiest way possible as too many changes too soon would put them totally off it.

After thinking it through I decided that the best start is to make them follow 16:8 Intermittent Fasting because they won't have to give up any foods that they currently eat to begin this journey and the only committment is to avoid eating food from the time they get up until midday and no snacking after dinner at around 8pm.

They weighed in this morning. Dad dropped 2kg with his weight now being at 99.9kg and mom dropped 0.7kg with her weight now being 78.2kg. Dad works at a refinery so he is more physically active than mom who is a housewife. She dusted off the Orbitrek(a standing cycling thingy) and wants to try using it but I need to fix the pedal on it since these home workout products always break as if they were never meant to be used by fat people!!! LOL! FAIL!

They are really happy to see such positive results already and that will motivate them to make the future changes and stick to it. I will eventually get them to also follow 4:3 but I wont rush them into it.

Have an awesome weekend everyone! I just wanted to share this story with all of you for more motivation to all of you.

BBO you are a good son for looking out for your fogies. Intermittent fasting is a great place to start but please try and get them to reduce the processed carbs and eliminate cereals and porridges. These carbohydrates are what is known as empty calories with little to zero nutrition and the inflammation will start to leave the body very rapidly....resulting in beautiful and easy weight loss. You have an awesome weekend too!

Thanks for the tip LCFF :) Thankfully they don't have porridge and there's just a box of All Bran flakes to finish up(doubt they will have it). They actually prefer bacon, eggs and sausages for breakfast rather than cereal :) Mom loves peanut butter and puts it on roti which I feel is better than white bread due to bread having so much additives compared to fresh home made roti. It will take a while but I'll get them into better food choices.

This is an inspirational story BBO. Its not about just our weight loss and journey to a healthy lifestyle, its about those around you that sometimes don't know better about their food choice. You are a good guy!

WoW! great job! my parents use to be very unhealthy and overweight, took dad to a 5km race last year in Feb and the "bug" bit him, both of them have been running since, Dad now does 10km races over the weekens, they both dropped allot of weight, and Dad is now off his blood pressure medication and cholestrol is at a very healthy number, so i understand where you are coming from. i found the running events are a great motivator and its fun. besides... getting a medal for Exercising really boost morale :)
