This weigh gain was very upsetting for me because I was away for 2 days and had to eat some carbs and was shock to gain 5 pounds right back. It really scared me to gain weigh that fast. I really only had a few bites of dessert and a bites of bread. I can't image what would happen if I started to eat carbs again everyday.

I have been doing pretty well this whole week and been trying to limit my over all calorie intake too.

80.3 kg Lost so far: 30.8 kg.    Still to go: 16.8 kg.    Diet followed: Reasonably Well.

I CAN imagine what happens (to me anyway). I went on a week vacation, went off plan, gained 10lbs. For 17 days around the holidays went off plan, gained 13lbs. The good thing is hop right back on and you will lose it very quickly. BUT this was a huge reminder to me, I CAN'T EAT A LOT OF CARBS! Plus I felt bloated and yuk!

hi cambridge, luckily it is probably mostly water weight that came on with the excess carbs-which means it will drop away when you're back in ketosis. happened to me last weekend when i ate too many carbs and took me till wednesday to drop the water weight -but then went back to normal low carb speed weight loss. don't be discouraged

I am hoping this will happen( that its fast water weight gain) but it does make me nervous about going back to a life with carbs at sometime. I am losing weight much slower now while still doing the first stage on Atkins. Once you react you target weight how to learn to live without gaining weight??

You were right I went back down but I am afraid I will never be able to eat a regular diet again. I really want to get down another 20 pounds and then get on a more normal diet Thanks for the support it gets really frustrating when you are eating on a strict diet and not succeeding.

That is a fear I have as well...that it will be hard to maintain the weight loss when I start eating more carbs. I think/hope that the research on keto adaptation is correct...that after 6-8 weeks in ketosis your body develops the enzymes and the ability to get in and out of ketosis quickly and flexibly.. Once I hit my goal weight, will try doing an 80/20 plan and see how it goes if I am just low carb 80 percent of the time. But that's still awhile away :). In the meantime, it's nice that we can whine to one another about the diet and frustrations!

I know that best part of this site is the exchanging of information and support.

Oh man, I hear ya. One bite of cake or cookie, and BAM! 2 pounds. I swear that stuff just makes you retain water and who knows what else! Takes 2-3 days to get rid of it, too. You know what they say...."A moment on the lips, forever on the hips." Dang, I wish there wasn't so much truth to that! LOL! Its hard when you're on the road, and the 'options menu' is wanting. I've gone so far as to order burgers and then ask for a fork in the drive-thru. Thankfully Hardees offers LC burgers. MCD's and BK - just tell them you're gluten free, and they will make you a nice little salad base with the lettuce and tomato, then set your burger (or chicken) on top. Subway will morph any sub into a salad for you too.
