ChrisComedy's Journal, 03 Nov 14

Eight hours of sleep with no wide awake episodes and vivid dreams. I drank four cups of weak coffee.

Morning plank and ten minutes first thing in the morning on the Air Walk Trainer to burn off glycogen.

Sunday was a cheat day on the Alternate-Day Diet (eat all I want) .

Cardio: one hour on the Air Walk Trainer Sunday - early so I wouldn't be doing cardio while watching "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" - plus five minutes every hour to offset the effects of sitting. Steps: 1,052. My new daily average to surpass is 728. My record on the Striiv Smart Pedometer is 1,781.

Time spent on organizing the kitchen to date: four hours, 15 minutes.

I like your "five minutes every hour" routine. Sounds like it would be very beneficial. Started doing my exercise in the PM after dinner. Sleeping a lot better, although the time change will screw up my sleep for a few days. Don't even want to think about the kitchen, it definitely needs reorganizing. Wanted to add some cabinets and counter space, but I put it off too long this year. I don't want to start tearing up the kitchen until after the holidays.

My biggest problem with the kitchen is a lack of counter space and a lack of pantry space, followed by a lack of containers. I'm thinking about getting a kitchen cart. I got the idea for 5 minutes of walking an hour to offset the damage to your heart done by sitting from a recent study. If you Google it, you can find several references, most notably the article in Men's Health.

If you have the room, you can do what I'm going to do. You can buy 2 or 3 base cabinets. They vary in size and you can get them with draws or shelves. You hook them up together, get a countertop cut to that size and you have yourself counter and cabinet space. I've also seen them make islands this way. I have read and seen on cable news shows how bad sitting more than 1 hour is bad for you. Old habits are hard to break. I think some of the "fit" bands that you wear will let you know when you have been inactive more than 1 hour.

Unfortunately, I rent an apartment so I'm limited in terms of the modifications that I can make. That's why kitchen carts are appealing. Another possibility is adding non-permanent shelves to the kitchen cabinets. One activity tracker will shock you if you are inactive. I think I would settle for a flashing light.

I'm going to add some Ikea storage shelves. You can also purchase drawers and different types of containers they make to fit those shelves. You can configure different sized units to fit your space.
