Bionici's Journal, 15 Apr 11

04/15/11 On 6/6/10 I started a journey of getting back to a normal size for my age, weight, and height. At the time, I weighted 288.8 pounds. It's been 10+ months, and I've lost 63 pounds, and as of 4/1/11 I weighted 225.8 pounds. However, I'm just now opening a membership with Fat Secret. This past 2 months have been a struggle since it seems I've been on a weight plateau that is hard to break.

It's been an interesting journey, since my approach has worked. Generally, I'm still eating the same foods (they were always good & noutritious), but now am eating in smaller quantities. My spouse has been very supportive, and though she does not need to watch her weight like me, she has eaten the same foods as me.

We don't let a change in our dietary journey consume our lives. We still go out to dinner, and I eat what I want. But, I just right back in the following morning and continue the journey.

I have noticed that I enjoy fruits much more than I did previously. It's not that I did not eat or like fruit. They just taste alot sweeter than they used to taste. The same is true with most vegetables. Love them. Like most people I have my likes and dislikes, and quite frankly I still dispise creamed spinach (love fresh), sweet potatoes, turnips & other root vegetables.

One thing that I've also noticed....Most people state in a rather rhetorical manner, "I bet you really feel better, and have more energy". Strangely, NO. I don't feel any better, nor do I have any more energy. I just have not experienced that phenomenon. The only thing that I have noticed is that the pressure / strain on a previously severely injured left knee is that the pain has been reduced.

Keep pushing. TWR

Hi TWR, congrats on that huge amount of weight loss! Your approach to dieting seems logical and sustainable for life. I'm generally doing the same thing. Are you also exercising?

I again started, in earnest, to change my diet and exercise habits on 11/5/18. At the time I weighed 300 pounds. In November 2020 my lowest weight was 171 pounds, though the weight I wanted to be at was 175. During the holiday season, I went from 175 up to about 200, and have maintained for the past 10 months at between 185 and 195. My current goal is to be at between 180 and 185. I exercise 5 - 6 days a week. On one of those days, I play golf. On the other days, I ride a recumbent bike for about 90 minutes per day which is about 24 - 26 miles depending on how my knees feel. Since I severely injured my knees several years ago, it is very difficult for me to do any strenuous exercise except walk or ride my bike. Weights more than about 15 pounds are out. However, I do some stretching exercises to keep my muscles, tendons, and ligaments fluid. Thankfully, I've been able to somewhat stabilize my weight, and when I get off my regimen, the next day or 2nd day I go back to what I need to do. Holidays are tough, and back-to-back holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year) are a pain. I love the food, but much more, I love eating properly, love my wife, and love being thinner again.
