wholefoodnut's Journal, 09 Oct 14

It's Thursday already! Time goes by too fast. Will try for the gym today as my week has been sabotaged by the weather, no football game had the schedule in my head wrong.

Have to get ingredients for cole slaw after work to take for the lunch meeting tomorrow and make it tonight.

The rain is sinking toward us from the north along with the cold front. Happy I have the plants in the garage, my brake light replaced, and some herbs and veggies picked.

Have decided to stay put in my department at work for awhile. Have turned down a couple of positions because my base pay rate would stay the same but I would lose my differential and bonus pay. That would seriously hurt my budget. No sense in changing for less money. I've told them that was the reason for not accepting the offer. So will just work on ways to reduce my mental exhaustion where I am now.

Time has run out, need to get ready for work.

Too bad they wouldn't meet your salary needs to be able to utilize you in their department. Maybe they'll come back with a higher offer in a few months when new budgets kick in. I have no garage. I guess I'll fill my project room with the outdoor plants. Not sure what to do about the hibiscus trees (planted) - dig 'em up or find a way to cover 'em I guess.

Aren't the hibiscus OK where you live? or does it get cold? I know Nevada has varying weather depending on what part. Mine will do OK in the garage a few days maybe this weekend I'll get the dirt washed off the containers, and move them inside. It's dark in there, no heat and I do want to get the car inside--I hate scraping windows @ 6am!! Can't wait to get my kitchen painted and my new storage shelves in, I'm making space for plants where they will get the winter afternoon sun. Until then they will be stuck here and there LOL

Hibiscus will winter over here in Oregon. Have one in my side yard and it comes back every year. So does my sister's up in Portland and it is smack dab in the middle of her large front lawn where it gets hit by all the weather, including ice.

WOW really!! We never know if we will have prolonged cold here in Missouri or if we will end up with well below temps so those have to be protected here. I love them but only mess with bringing a few herbs in and the few potted tropicals I stick outside in the summer. I also cut coleus starts and root those for the following year.

Wholefoodnut, the sell a perennial "hibiscus" called a Mallow Rose that weathers over very well in Missouri. I have 2 in my yard, that have been there for about 10 years. The flowers are the size of dinner plates, one a dark, rose pink, the other white with pink edges. Gorgeous. Now my traditional hibiscus that I get every year for pots, does not winter over, whether planted in the ground or in a pot

Really!! Thanks ctiss, I will have to hunt for those next year. I fell in love with the hibiscus plants at my Mom's when she lived in Florida. A dark rose would be perfect with my roses and lilies

Ruhu, some days are easier than others, today wasn't a rough one. My job is a customer service rep. for a mutual fund company. I am on the phone all day long. We are expected to be perfect on every single call with no mistakes. Our calls are randomly listened to and evaluated by both an independent company and our internal quality team. It is interesting, sometimes entertaining, always a challenge everyday. We can easily lose our jobs if our scores do not meet the expectations. We have to know and understand a phenomenal amount of information and be able to explain it to people who have no clue. It is mentally exhausting everyday, our turnover is unreal. I've been there almost 7 years so am pretty comfy and know my job, I'm the most tenured rep in the department, also the oldest. We have awesome benefits which helps that our pay scale is not very high. The jobs I turned down were off the incoming phones all day. We get a differential for being on the phone and also a substantial bonus for surviving through tax season. Losing those would be more than $3,000 a year, that would hurt.

I'm tired just reading your job description. That does sound mentally exhausting. Can you decorate around your desk? Maybe put up lots of bright shiny objects?

The job does sound exhausting and stressful. Don't know how you do it. And good to you for getting the steps in despite being on the phone so much. I hope the people come back from the job you turned down with a counteroffer. How cool would that be?

Instantcrazy, we are limited due to rules and I'm one who doesn't handle clutter well, thanks to ex dh who turned into a hoarder, simple and needed is for me. My house, though a work in progress is my stress free zone. Just me so not hard, unless my dogs pee in the house!! helewis, maybe they will, time will tell. I gave them my comments truthfully so one never knows until something happens
