My MIL has this great Dill dip recipe. I have always hated dieting cause you have to give up so much. Well, with being "carb aware" I have been checking out some of the recipes I have used in the past. Turns out her Dill Dip is perfect for a low/no car regimen ! Only 8.5 g of carbs in a whole 2 cup batch !!! Woohoo ! It tastes great not just on veges, but on meat, in sandwiches, you name it ! So, in Atkins book he suggests that to replace breading on meats or croutons in salads try using ....... pork rinds ! They called them Bakuns back then. My husband was tickled pink to hear this as he remembers snacking on these as a kid. I had never had them. But they are a perfect low carb snack. NO CARBS at all and only 80 calories (for you calorie counters) per serving which is a good sized portion. So we had to try the two together. Oh my gosh so tastingly rich and yummy ! So my problem with snacks when I dieted in the past was not the dip but those dratted veges ! Veges for a snack is deleterious to your low/no carb diet since they are loaded with carbs. If it comes from the ground it will be a big problem and mess up all your hard work. I'm carb sensitive and it makes me a slow burner. Your body burns carbs/starches first before it will burn fat. So if you eat alot of carbs, you never get to burning your own fat stores ! Carbs inhibit your body's ability to keep your ketone levels up high enough to stoke your fat burning furnace. I've learned to keep my veges and fruits to a minimum and it has made a difference.
