DairyKing's Journal, 01 May 14

Good Morning, FS Warriors. What a slouch I was, sleeping in until 4:00. Even got to bed before 10 last night. Think I was a little dehydrated this morning; gulped a cup of water down, but probably wasn't all that helpful for an immediate run. I wasn't real motivated, but by the time I had geared up, I at least felt functional. Probably got out the door somewhere around 4:30. it was about 45F with a chilly wind, but as usual, I warmed up after about 1/2 mile. I tried to pour on the coals last quarter of a mile. I don't think I broke the sound barrier, but I was sweating a lot, and huffing and puffing, so I walked around a bit to let my shoes cool off, just in case. :D

Again, I began to question the accuracy of the Sportband/shoe sensor combination. It said I ran almost 3.5 miles this morning, and I would be surprised if it was over 2.5 miles. I've had that shoe sensor for almost 3 years, and it still seems to be sending a strong signal, but I think it just got out of cal or something. So, today, after uploading my data, I reset the thing to factory settings again. I never calibrated it, so I would have thought it was still at factory settings, but we will see. Tomorrow is a rest day, and I'm hoping to have my new GPS watch tomorrow night, so maybe I'll compare the two on Saturday. Here comes Mr. Gadget again. LOL!

Played and sang at another nursing home last night. I actually knew some of the residents. I had a good time and I think they did too. Our groupies from the church mingled and talked with them during our visit, and they seem to really appreciate it. They give us moral support too. One even brought a little canine with her, all hairy and all. Looked just like a dog, only smaller. Since two of us in the group were in Branson last week, we didn't practice, so I had no idea what songs we were doing until we got up in front of them. We winged it pretty good. I'm an amateur at this, so I don't normally wing these things very good, especially when I'm doing a solo. I just have to keep reminding myself that the audience usually doesn't hear very well anyway. If I sing off-key, they're probably thinking their hearing aid needs a new battery.

Well, I can't believe the week has come and gone so quickly. Yeah, I know it isn't Friday yet, but still, I would have thought the week would really drag, especially after having come back from vacation. But, in all honesty, I was rather glad to get home and get back to work. I can start planning for next year's vacation; I kind of liked that one. Well, enough small talk for now. May you all have a wonderful day! Toodles.

I thought that this morning... 'thursday... when did THAT happen?' Weird isn't it. I don't wish my life away counting down days ~ I'm usually still trying to figure out where they went.

Great minds think alike, huh, Bella? Yeah, I don't want to wish my life away either . . . so, I wish it was LAST Thursday. I am amazed that anyone would want to hear me sing; I'm thinking I don't want to hear a recording of myself, or I might quit. It's probably better to think I sound great than to actually know the truth. The bible says the truth will set you free; does that mean I WOULD quit?

It sounds like fun to me and awesome to be able to sleep that long! My body wont't let me sleep that much unless I'm sick. I would like to know more about these gaggets as I am the "gaggetgirl" :)

Haha, Christina, if you're getting less sleep than me, you are in trouble. I love gadgets and technology. I do look a little silly though wearing all of them at once. I'm working towards getting a one-size-fits-all remedy - like the Nike Sportswatch that has GPS, but still works on the treadmill because you wear a foot sensor (because, to the satellite, you're not going anywhere :D ), and can track your heart rate because you're wearing a HR transmitter.

You probably sing very well ~ and if you don't, you inspire others to follow their dreams and live their life. I think much like the airbrushed models I'm trying hard to stop hating myself over because it's unattainable, many people would like to get up and sing like you but get overwhelmed w/the lip syncing, music morphing, technical voodoo of the finished products out there. Good, simple music (( or displays of talent of any kind )) can be very inspiring these days.

Free motherly advice that I don't follow, sleep deprivation makes losing weight far more difficult than when you are rested--see http://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/excessive-sleepiness-10/lack-of-sleep-weight-gain

Well, Colette, I know you're right, I don't get enough sleep, but it's nice to be able to blame my slow weight loss on something. LOL! There just aren't enough hours in the day. I stay pretty busy with a full time job at work and at home, my recreational activities; and I have to squeeze the running in somewhere. The way I look at it, I would rather be doing what I do now, than looking back on my life and wishing I had. There will be plenty of time for resting when I'm 80 or 90. :D Thank you, Bella, the singing is therapeutic for me as well. Sometimes I sing well, sometimes I just play louder. :) I owe it to the audience to do the best I can, but I don't get hung up on perfection.
