Sandy701's Journal, 21 Dec 10

A paltry 1.3 miles walked today. Cloudy but relatively warm, now 61 at noon, so too many people out and about, letting their dogs run around outside off leash, chasing after people. I had to cut off 2 complete roads due to loose dogs. So, dogs and I came home and I hopped on Stairmaster to complete my exercise.

I think our walks may be similarly shortened for the next 2 weeks until people go back to work and the kids go back to school.

I'm going to try to take advantage of this weather and get more leaves picked up from the backyard. Our trees go in stages; first one drops all its leaves and I pick them up, then the next tree drops its leaves a couple weeks later and I pick them up, and now we're about 1 species of tree short of finally getting to the end of the leaf drop. I couldn't wait until they've all dropped or we'd be knee-deep in leaves!!!

Some people have no consideration for others. Letting there dogs run all over the place and poop anywhere and everywhere. No consideration. It would worry me that another dog would attack mine. Once while I was haying our horses up back, the neighbors dog came flying up and over the snow bank and out into our pasture. Totally freaked out the horses and they started running all over the place. I was right in the middle of them and I had know where to go. Figure these horses are 6 foot at the shoulders and I'm only 5'5" to the top of my head.lol All I could think of was getting trampled. This wasn't the first time this dog has come over and spooked the horses and cows. This dog also beat the living crap out of our big dog when she was a pup. That was 4 years ago and she is 6 now and has never forgotten this dog. She goes into fight mode when this dog is around. So straying dogs are nothing we should have to deal with. We ended up calling animal control on them and he found out that the dog had NO shots and was not licensed with the town. Nice huh? Just be safe with all the wondering dogs in your community. Sorry about the story. Hope the rest of your day was good for you. Talk soon.:)

That must have been so scary, Laurie....having those horses get so spooked with you right there in the middle!!! Believe me, I'll be safe. I always carry a small pepper spray canister designed for use on dogs. I hope I never have to use it; I just try to avoid any confrontations with off-leash, charging/barking dogs.
