2ManyCurves's Journal, 07 Dec 13

Slowest time ever, with exception to the 20 foot slide down the hill on my butt after taking out both my friend who was completing the 5K with me and my poor dog. I slipped about four times. Fortunately I only hit the ground one time. Frankly, it was a blast...and likely hysterically funny for anyone watching. No broken bones since I still have plenty of padding. But, I have soaked in an epsom salt bath for an hour already as the soreness is setting in. We tried to run. We really did. Most of the time I looked like Tinker Bell with my hands to my side flexed at the wrist to catch myself in my inevitable crash on the icy pavement. I thought I had it all figured out when I moved my jogging over to what appeared to be powdered snow. Little did I know there was a solid sheet of ice under the fluffy good stuff. I wonder if I burned as many calories laughing the entire time in a 5K than I actually running it. The salt trucks rolled through after the race. Figures. There was a pretty low turnout too. So low, my friend and I won an award even when we came in dead last. I finished it and I suppose that is what matters. Almost have completed my second Non-Scale Goal. Next weekend is another 5K. I'm hoping the pavement is clear then and I can actually focus on a decent time. I'm thinking I am ready to step things up to 10K races now. Be careful out there. Once the running bug bites you, it can be a slippery slope.

Well, I'd love to have the running bug bite me but as you've already noticed from my journal - I'm not doing that well with the standing still bug so it'll be a long time before I try anything as brave as running on snow and ice. Take care of you - I soaked in Epsom salts too after posting my 'slip' - will think of you tomorrow as I'm creaking around wondering if you're doing the same.

I decided to stay inside....no running for me!!! Then again, with my lung problems, I can't. Lord I wish I could though!! Sounds like you had a really fun time, even with the wipeout!! Hope you are not as sore tomorrow!! Take care out there, and wishing you clear pavement!!!
