Really need to get to the bottom of this coffee thing. I feel it is either an addiction or a habit.

Things to think about:

Do I have milk or cream in coffee (don't like black) - milk/2floz/3carbs/39cals or thick cream/1tblspn/.5carb/51cals?

Thinking of buying some decaffeinated coffee and initially mixing it with decaffeinated to wean off caffeine. It wont do any harm except maybe having a headache for a couple of days.

Yesterday afternoon I had a coffee and for some reason I felt I could really eat something sweet - this feeling lasted until I went to bed. So could coffee be a trigger food for me?

In the beginning of Atkins, you really need to focus on your carbs, not your calories so much, so I would go w/ cream. It is likely an addiction, very common to caffeine. Try half decaf/half reg for a week, then try decaf or skip all together. May have a day or two w/ withdrawl headaches, but it would be good to clean your system of it regardless. Than once it's out of your system, you can tell if that was producing triggers for you or not....hope it goes well.

definitly the heavy cream, it is soo good, and that way you actually use less cause it is richer. I cant give up my coffee either, and its getting a bad rap, I cut down to 1 cup from 4 when I started, then got fiberbit liquid splenda, 0 net carb and went up to 2 cups. the more I read I wondered if I should not do that, been stalled, so back down to 1 cup. And I have read that it can be a trigger for sweets, me personally, I dont crave sweets so its not a problem, just worry if the caffine slowing my progress.

Thanks for both your help - cream it is, but it's my conditioning over all the low cal diets that cream is naughty - it is nice to get some assurance. Coffee, for me, appears to be the trickiest thing to get right. Will be on half and half next weeks. Have a really good week x
