Johanne's Journal, 22 Aug 10

I just watched Super Size Me for the first time. Scary. The problem is, we're bringing processed foods into our homes as well. You don't have to go to McDonald's (Wendy's, KFC, Burger King) to get them.

You should watch Food Inc next for optimum food paranoia :)

After watching Food, Inc., you'll only eat food that you have grown yourself in your hermetically sealed garden. LOL! But I do agree about Super Size Me. And once you watch movies about the high fructose corn syrup that is in EVERYTHING, you'll be amazed. (I believe they mention it in Food, Inc.)

Loved Food Inc -- incredible movie! Since then I do my best to eat mostly organic produce and natural meats w/o hormones -- selecting grass fed beef and free range chicken when I can find it. Funny thing I've noticed -- when I eat REAL food, I don't have insane cravings. I actually feel satisfied and stay full much longer. I don't know if it's all in my head or for real -- but it is seems much easier to adhere to 1200-1500 calories a day eating this way rather than my old tradition of diet foods. What do you think?

I was stunned by the effects on his health...who would have guessed that "diet" would have messed with his liver like that? What also struck me about the documentary was how it only took 30 days to gain however-many pounds, & something like 10 months to lose it. And Miss, you are not imagining things, when you eat "cleaner" food that is higher in quality, it is far more satisfying. Since I've started eating healthier, I find I crave fresh & healthy foods when I get hungry instead of junk. :)

@K8yk, I'll watch Food Inc. tonight. Netflix is great. I have already gone vegetarian in the house (not vegan), organic when I can afford it, have dropped anything with high fructose, partially hydroginated, hydroginated, enriched, etc. anywhere on the label. I'm cooking mostly whole foods now and have learned all the "secret" names for the bad guys on labels. If I don't know what it is, I don't buy it and look it up. My friend who goes shopping with me (and is gaining weight like gangbusters) thinks I'm a nut spending so much time reading labels. LOL.

My BF tells me I'm insane because I won't buy anything with chemical sounding ingredients. BUT he admits the food I make now is much better. Since you're all ready vegetarian, Food Inc will solidify that for you. Great documentary and I agree, Netflix is the bomb :)
