Snowwhite100's Journal, 17 May 19

I started this on @mrsroboto journal as a comment of how great she looks in her vintage jeans. "I too have a lot of clothes from previous years. I am 77 and have lived in this house for 48 years. I have 2 attics that are full of old, plus out of season clothes, sizes 2 to 12. And yes, through the years I have gone from a 4 to a 10 often. Once I could wear a children's size 12 jeans. Another time a women's size 14 jeans at Sears was too small for me."

I still have my high school prom dress that I altered to wear to a Halloween party as Little Bo Peep. I have altered clothes all my life as a creative outlet, plus focusing on it helped me keep a diet going. I didn't have money to buy new things so thrift store shopped. My husband actually said to me years ago "No, I don't want to buy you a microwave. I want you to stand over the stove, 3 or 4 hours a day." You may not believe he said that, but he did. I was too scared and co-dependent to leave. Well, yes, I did leave, but came back. I took too much, but could I have made a better life for myself, raising 2 children by myself, with a very bad back. I swept our problems under the carpet. I've always had a dirty carpet since. Jackie O did the same thing, except he wasn't so abusive. I can't tell you I did the right thing. I only tell you what I did. Eventually it became too late.

It's easy to take in pants with baggy legs. Just this week I took up the arms, and shoulders of a beautiful jacket that had those old big shoulders. Six years ago, I regretted cutting off the excess fabric from size 12 pants, making them into size 6, after I broke my back. I said I'll never cut it off again. I wasn't able to get into the attic that year. I just bought more stuff at the thrift store 3 for $1.00 on Sunday, or the day before for one or two dollars, that wasn't as picked over. My sister-in-law was a shopaholic and I got hundreds of things from her, the last 20 or 30 years. My therapist said I remade clothes, because it was "something" in my life, I could change.

I changed my mind now about the clothes. I am cutting off the excess fabric, because of IF, Keto, and FS, and have more confidence that if my weight starts to go up, I can intermittent fast. This is a major change in my life. My last binge cycle was harder to take off than ever before. Probably because of the age issue. Last year, before IF, and cutting more things (high carb) out of my diet, it took me 10 months to take off 8 pounds. I am about the same size now (4) as I was off and on through the years. Yes, I weigh less now, but I am almost 3 inches shorter. I am thicker in the waist, but I take some of those out. I let out the waist and side seams of outfits all those years anyway because I am smaller on the top. I am dragging lots of clothes out of the attic, like beautiful leather jackets, etc. I just gave away 13 long boy-friend jackets, 12 wool, 1 silk, because at 5'1" they make me look like I am standing in a hole. Most were size 8 to 12. I have way too many clothes, but after a lifetime of such a friendly relationship with them, it's hard to give away very many. Please pray for my attitude toward my husband, I don't know if I forgive "good enough". Dying to self is the hardest thing to do. I am lousy at it. I am on maintenance now, but still being strict for the sake of my brain.

You are very articulate, very focused, and have obviously worked hard on dealing with what life has brought you. I hope you take time to know that you are a thoughtful, precious human being and you deserves to be treated well and should treat yourself well.

You seem pretty sharp for 47, never mind 77!
