Vocatus's Journal, 11 Jan 19

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but my lazy day will be so delightful.

It's Friday, it's cold and rainy, and I'm done with the outside work until the weather clears up Sunday. I finished decking the roof yesterday, but didn't get the metal panels on it. So, I covered it in house wrap to keep the decking dry until I can finish it Sunday or Monday. As much as I want it done, I'm thankful for the break!

I had my second C25k meeting yesterday evening. We walked for about 30 minutes, with several 1-minute runs spread throughout -- I think I ran 6 or 7 times, though the last two were only half-minutes. Then we worked on some stretches. I was already sore from the combination of Tuesday's squats, lunges, and glute raises and the constant up and down the ladder and plywood toting of both Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday's walk/run. Back up the ladder last night to cover the roof before the rain started was a tough climb, and I feel pretty rough this morning. Not quite like being hit by a car, but I'd still say I feel quite tenderized.

I've only been eating one meal a day for a few weeks now, and I had just assumed that, due to their large size, I was probably barely in a calorie deficit. Man was I wrong. Actually tracking my meals here has shown me just how hard it is to get the 2600 or so calorie RDI to lose a pound and a half a week. Wednesday I ate under 1400 calories, and yesterday I barely broke 1000. we cooked a 3-pound pork loin in the Instant Pot, and I ate about a quarter of it. To my surprise, that was only a little over 500 calories -- mostly fat and protein. I had eat it with cheddar and avocado oil mayo just to boost the calories a bit. Both days I ate until I was full and eating any more would have resulted in discomfort. I never thought I'd struggle to get enough calories! That's the magic of eating only once a day, I suppose.

I don't know how much fat I'll lose how fast, but I know I'm making progress. I'm down almost exactly 30 pounds since Thanksgiving. I've done this once before, though I was a decade younger, single, and didn't have kids, land, etc. to devote any time to. When I was 23, I decided that 304 pounds was just too fat for me. I felt that self-discipline was the issue, as I ate whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and pretty well just sat around reading or playing video games.

I kicked it off last time with a 4-day fast, consuming only water, just to prove to myself that I could. I used 1-3 day fasts throughout, and ate a very controlled diet, probably at a similar deficit to what I'm at now. 7 months later, I was 192 pounds -- the lightest I've been since high school. I went from 304 pounds wearing size 44 pants to 192 pounds in a size 34. I went from barely doing 10 pushups -- with horrible form -- doing pushups correctly all day long.

After about a year, I decided it was time kick it up a notch. I started building up my pushup count until I finally achieved my goal: 1,000 pushups in a single day! Now, don't take that to mean I did 1,000 pushups per day lol. I've done 1,000 in exactly one day, my entire life. How can you do 1,000 pushups? I did them in sets of 50, with a couple laps around the house in between to stretch out and give my upper body a little rest. on my 1K day, I did 350 before breakfast, 350 before lunch, then 300 before supper.

All that just to say I know I can cut this fat because I've done it before. And for anyonoe reading this journal and wondering if they can do the same, the answer is yes. It's a tough road, but its doable. All it takes is determination.
