Kelly140's Journal, 26 Mar 18

So I’m told I’ll be without internet soon. Evidently this arctic location hits a seasonal sun spot that interferes with the internet quite extensively for a few weeks.... most of April and May. (I can’t wait to get back to civilisation lol).

I’ll keep post as long as possible. So if you don’t hear from me just know I’m still routing for you and I’m still trying my best to beat the weight struggle!
Cheers and best of luck to everyone.

What a fascinating phenomenon. Albeit an inconvenient one

I am fascinated by what we call in French Le Grand Nord -- always felt an attraction for the civilization of the Artic, but I never went further than Hearst (Ontario). So the 24-hour sunlight is coming soon, but it must be towards the June Solstice, right? So May must be Springtime in the Artic? (I vaguely remember a funny episode of Northern Exposure about the arrival of Spring in the fictional village -- I hope you don't this disrespectful about your very real living experience.) I hope you won't miss the internet too much. I'm getting more and more dependent, even though I resisted learning computers for at least a decade. I still feel that the most important in life is away from the screens but it's difficult to resist when it's so easy to access. Do you get lonely when you are constantly changing location for your work or are you able to develop new friendships? I'm glad you told us about it in advance, I would have worried about you otherwise. I did not tell you yet, but I worried about you when you did the cleanse, because I had very bad health consequences from a 5-day water fast that I did at the beginning of an allergy-testing process. I had previously (when I was still healthy) done one 15-day water fast and 3 or 4 10-day water fasts, and numerous 3 and 4-day fasts. I was a fasting enthusiast. But I think prolonged fasts like I saw on this website may damage people in ways they do not suspect. I would need very convincing research showing health benefits other than weight-loss to ever attempt it again. So I held my tongue because each of us must decide what is best for us, but I was glad when you had finished. I'm sure you will do well in spite of the absence of internet, we used to have nice lives before its invention twenty years ago, didn't we? I will think of you and wish you well. Ty ... but there may be different news on the horizon... the head office commando is hinting there may be another transfer in the foreseeable future... yay! Fleur: I’ve been working in the north the better part of the past six years. I’ve lived in locations that have only five mont daylight n five complete darkness... it really messes with your system. That’s not the prob here at this location. It’s complete satellite fed internet. And some how the sun interferes with the satellite reception for a few week in spring...

Good luck with the transfer, Kelly! Hope they send you soon to a place you enjoy. Yea, I can imagine that messes with your circardian rhythm. What did the Inuit do traditionally during the complete darkness? Did they travel or stay put? I am asking you as if you're an expert because you live in the Artic... hope you don't mind? :-) Are there tricks like melatonin that can help you adjust? Johanne
