Steven Lloyd's Journal, 03 May 17

No material change in weight or body composition since my last recorded weight.

I've found that for me, I need to keep an average logged 250 - 500 calorie "deficit" to maintain my current weight and body fat...if I'm closer to the 500 calorie deficit I lose a bit of fat and if I'm under the 250 "deficit" I gain a bit of fat.

A few days ago I was driving home from my last ski day of the season (day 42). Over the season I skied 728,000 vertical feet, with several of those days burning over 4,500 calories. Most of my "training days" and more relaxing ski days I'm in the low 3,000 calorie range...all of which helps keep things on track and improves the mood ;)

Finally I've posted a couple of food pictures below. Guess which of the three foods in the pictures; chocolate chips, fresh strawberries or chopped salad has the highest calories? Try answering without using the FS app... actual calories are posted in my comments below. Good luck!!

Take care all, Steven

I think they all got the same amount of calories.....but the stawberries would be my choice, although I do really love dark chocolate :)

that many strwberries looks high to me, dark choc isn't usually too bad. But yeah, I'd eat the strawberries - they look delicious!

Fantastic, love a good quiz. I'd say the strawbs and the choc are similar but the salad looks as though it has some sort of dressing on it and, without knowing what's in it, I couldn't say for certain. Hmm, I'll go for the salad because of the cheese and dressing.

All three are 275 calories; 59gm semi-sweet chocolate chips (70 cal/15gm), 860gm strawberries (48cal/150gm), 431gm chopped salad (68cal/100gm). The chopped salad could easily be doublecthat if I wasnt stingy on the feta cheese and didn't make my own dressing.

I'd eat all three but only the salad would be a meal for me. The chocolate I'll eat only once in a while and then in 30gm or less portions, the strawberries would last both me and my better half at least several days.

That exact salad was yesterday's lunch if you want to see the ingredients list.

Thanx Bill, only following what you and several other good buddies do, with slight mods for my lifestyle.

I'm guessing the chopped salad has the most calories due to what I think are chopped beans, corn, feta cheese and salad oil.

Good thread Steven. You made so thoughtful explanations...

Well, I see that I was wrong! When and if you have time please share your salad dressing recipe. B

Ah, the old trick question... For most of us, maintaining a good weight is also a trick question, so congrats on answering that one, too!

Thnx John!! I'm far from perfect and as both of us have found, sometimes it is easy and often it is hard to keep the fat from creeping (or landsliding...lol) back on.

Nice post. Congrats on getting to and staying in the blue.

Thanks Ches...I've found maintenance to be a bit different from losing fat weight...still always needing to be careful as three big days can really add up and take a week or more of diligence to get back to normal. Internal, non scale goals help me too.

I think the fact that you know what works for you really helps with the maintenance. My problem is I start to not care anymore then all hell breaks out with my fat rolls 🙄I'm going to have to just stick with healthy eating, one donut sends me to three donuts. After this last fail I'm never eating donuts again. I swear I am struggling to lose this fat up on my hips and around. Never had that before so I'm blaming it on the month long donut binge😆🙅🏼 take care buddy and thanks for all your help and motivation!

Thanks Steven, you are one of my main inspirations here on Fatsecret. I agree with you, maintaining a calorie deficit is how I do it too. Also I want to thank you for encouraging me and others. You are successful in you training and maintenance and see the value in continuing to track your calorie consumption and burn. Maintenance, the final frontier...

The feeling is very mutual...lots of inspirational folks here on this thread or who are regulars on the site with their own posts or are encouraging others on a daily basis. I have to fess up that I have been a bit lazy in posting pics and journal entries though...I've been very busy at work and on the home front. Also, I hardly ever browse the "featured" feed anymore so it has become less easy to see and welcome newcomers :(
