melissatwa's Journal, 19 Nov 20

Exercise has been almost nonexistent this last week. The stress revolving around a couple kids and the work to help them has been overwhelming, but today I feel I can breathe. I plan to lift what I can and walk for at least a while. I got an official diagnosis from the sports med doc. As expected, I have IT band syndrome, which is creating trouble for my knee. I'll do some PT and hope for the best. I've already been working with this assumption and trying to strengthen and stretch already. I'm hovering at about my lowest weight ever. I am happy about that, but I fear I've lost muscle. Eating less is easier when not working out. 😵

I'm so glad that things are easing up a bit and that you have an answer for your knee issues. ❤️

I pray things get better with your daily life... The stress of life is hard to cope with and then the issues with your knee and not being able to work out...it's alot! Sending you hugs! 💜💜💜💜💜

Good that you got an official diagnosis and hope it will eventually get better. At least you're not finding it too challenging to eat less.

Eating less IS easier when not working out. I know. So if I want to drop weight I sometimes skip exercise. It is a bit weird. IT band syndrome. What does syndrome indicate? Will it heal in time. Yeah worry about kids here too. It is a tough time. Glad that you can breathe again.

Take care of you - breathe - stretch and find a few moments to relax... I understand the challenge with the littles running around. I started doing some mindfulness meditation a while ago to try and stay centered in all this uncertainty. https://www.mindful.org/meditation/mindfulness-getting-started/ I wish you well on your journey.

Just relax and be kind to yourself. Besides the fact that I am sure you still look awesome- you'll have muscle memory! 💪🏻💓

Thanks, #One. It is always a bit crazy, but I'm glad for a little relief for sure. atriel2, thank you, dear. I am glad to know and have a plan for moving forward for the knee. Diana, I am not sure I have ever been so stressed as in the last couple months. I am thankful that I have some habits that are helping be stay somewhat stable... Sometimes! Thank you for your kind understanding and encouragement!

LaughingChevre... I really am so tempted to change that to GigglingGoat, but Chevre sound ever so much more classy! Thank you! I really do hope it gets better. It has already been a long time, and I'm impatient! Liv, from what I understand is that it won't just heal on its own very well and will continue to come back unless I can get the cause fixed. It seems that I got a muscle imbalance. Without use of the gym, where I worked the weakened abductors, I poured on the strength to do squats and deadlifts and lunges. At least that is what the sports med doc seemed to think. It is an overuse "injury" that was especially brought on running. I've go to strengthen by doing lots of abductor workouts and also get more flexibility. squares

I ran out of room, and I don't know where "squares" came from! 😁 Anyway, yes, liv, it should heal in time. I'm hoping for full recovery, but I'll probably always have to watch out for it not coming back. Ty! aintgotaname, thank you!

tahoebrun, thank you so much for your encouragement! I know I need to take care of myself. I don't have little ones anymore, and I do very much remember the weariness caused by those challenges. My kiddos are late teens through young adults. Two months ago one daughter, who already has chronic pain, was in a car accident. Two weeks ago our middle girl was in a really bad accident. She has a concussion and fractured vertebrae in her back. Recovery has been slow for both. Physical hurt is only part of the crazy world we find ourselves in. the difficult

Did your medical people mention collagen at all? In my world of things I think vitamin C and collagen or gelatin would probably be suggested by some. Time is factor for sure. So sorry about your daughters. Hope it goes well

Wow Melissa, another daughter injured?! You're family been going through it! I'm so sorry and I hope time will pass quickly and you will all be feeling better soon!!! PT still counts as exercise! I know not the kind you wanted to do but it will help strengthen your foundation!

I wish we could share injuries! I’d take your knee 3 days a week and you could take my shoulder 3 days a week. Then on those days when the other had both we could get to the gym/running. Sorry this is still plaguing you but glad you have a diagnosis and have already started on the strengthening exercises.

i am sorry to hear about the stress and the issues with the knee. I think you can still hang onto muscle, though, just have to rethink your exercises, maybe cut down on running (?) , i am going thru the same thing myself, where i have to take longer breaks for injury etc. but i do hope you can find some time for yourself and reduce some stress.
