Debbie Cousins's Journal, 27 Jul 20

Well, I've STARTED. Can't make any promises for how long it will last, but had a "legal" Keto breakfast this morning. Had planned to start drinking water today, too, but had Diet Coke with breakfast. Might be too much to try to elminiate it at the same time as making drastic changes to my eating habits. I will still try to get in SOME water today (which will be MORE than I've had in the past several months). God was gracious to give me a 1-pound weight loss over last Monday, even though I was TERRIBLE in my eating - having up to four cones/bowls of ice cream a day. For those of you who don't believe in God, wish me luck. For those who DO, please pray that I will stick with it. Haven't even TRIED since the beginning of January. For now, I'm just praying that I will make it through THIS DAY successfully! Y'all have a great week! I'm starting to chase the wagon and might need an extended hand to hoist my 243.5-pound self up ONTO it again!

Debbie one day at a time, one hour at a time. You ever watch the #CarbAddictDoc on YouTube - Dr. Rob Cywes? He is awesome. I will pray that you stick with it. Don't try to give up the Diet Coke yet. I haven't either. I cut down, I drink a water every other drink. It's a very hard habit to break and you don't need to be perfect when you are just trying to get back on your plan again. (((hugs)))

You know I'll walk beside you every step, every day.

Congratulations! The first step has been taken. I had to chuckle when I read your recent post about seeing yourself in the mirror. That happened to me 2 years ago when I saw myself and was shocked. I weighed 216 lbs, the heaviest I ever was and it took me over 9 months but I got down to 176 lbs. I have less pain in my knees and hips and feel so much better. I am up a bit to l81 lbs but I am back to watching what I eat and how much. I am still praying for you daily so have faith and look to Him. God is good all the time. P.S. Sugar is sooo bad. Proud of you.

I'm still drinking my Fresca every day . . . and a lot of it. I figure we'll know when we are ready to give up our diet soft drinks.

PTL. Sometimes the wait is long before we can get started. One baby step at a time and we'll still get there

I started IF last week , my times are 16:8. It’s easier than I thought it would be and I eat at least 1500 calories during my eating hours. I’ve lost 6 lbs and 2.5 inches .

Good for you!! I could say so much, but for now I'll just point out to you and Fresca girl (ha) that diet sodas actually cause sweet cravings. Also, though there was always a debate about this in the groups I followed, there's evidence that they raise insulin, hence causing your body to go into "fat storage mode." Overall, it's very likely that diet sodas CAUSE weight gain. If that's not enough motivation to get off them, of course research the nasty sweeteners they use. :) If I were hooked, I'd buy flavored sparkling water and add a bit of liquid stevia if I wanted it slightly sweet. I do love sparkling water.

@DianaBanana - I hear you. I know Fresca is bad for me. I go through phases and sometimes it is green tea, sometimes hibiscus tea, sometimes Crystal Light lemonade or sugar-free Gatoade (just as bad). When I lived in places with good water, I've been known to drink a lot of water. Moved to Phoenix a few months ago and still trying to get used to the water here - I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it.

Good luck. Ya have to start somewhere and plant your flag. It's hard, but we are all with you. BTW - we just started adding in a little ice cream. We found the Sundae Shoppe pints at Aldi are pretty good. Same idea as Halo Top but almost $1-2 cheaper.

Wow! Surprised and happy to see so many reach out to you in support. I must agree with DianaBanana on diet sodas and artificial sweeteners. They can be as bad or worse than sugar. I think Stevie or zyletol is the safest according to what I have read. With all this support you will overcome. Stick with it and kudos to the FSers who responded.

Thanks, everyone for the encouragement and support! I'm feeling your prayers and well-wishes. I wanted to eat MORE today, but exercised discipline to not eat ANYTHING that would throw me off my plan. Finishing the day out strong. Couldn't go to sleep. Usually I get back up and EAT something if I can't sleep, but I got up and made a cup of Sleepytime Tea with Heavy Whipping Cream and Truvia. I think I can sleep now, and I STILL stayed under 2,000 calories for the day. YAHOO!
