Debbie Cousins's Journal, 19 Mar 20

Went to the grocery store for my daughter yesterday (she has been sick for a couple weeks). Not as bad as I thought it would be at Walmart. DID have to wait in the checkout line for over a half hour. The toilet paper aisle was empty, but they had just placed a pallet in the aisle with some multi-packs of Angel Soft, so I was able to get some for her and for us. That was comforting. I can't imagine actually running OUT of toilet paper! I do have about half a dozen rolls of paper towels that could have been used for non-flushing, but that would be really gross.

Well, I yielded to a can of Diet Coke this morning. I still love and accept myself even though I had it. Maybe it will be a "process" instead of a "cold turkey" thing.

My beans havent pushed through the soil yet, but it should be any day now. It is supposed to be over 80 degrees today and tomorrow, so that should help. Been rather chilly (but not freezing) since I planted them 9 days ago (for the bush beans, and 6 days ago for the pole beans). I still have some sort of critter digging in my pots. The motion-sensor owl I had bought needed to be within 8 feet to detect motion, so there's no way it would have been able to protect them all. PRAYING the creature away!

Were any of you in an online weight-loss community back for 9-11? I was, and a lot of people thought, "The world is coming to an end - why should I care about what I'm eating!" I hope you don't have that fatalistic outlook during this pandemic.

Most of our area churches have closed down, but we're going to continue to have services. We're a very SMALL church and can easily keep people 6' apart and are following the sanitizing and issuing precautions. Not doing the hugging we usually do. BUT, if there is someone in our community who realizes that they NEED GOD during this time, we're going to be there to welcome them in! (We only have about 25 people on a Sunday morning, and a lot of those are at-risk people who won't be coming, so it still leaves room for visitors.)
