Debbie Cousins's Journal, 29 Feb 20

Exhausted from having the kids for 22 hours. They're very good, but we're not at all used to the noise level from the 4-year old. Always appreciate the peace and quiet when they have gone. I feel like I spent the whole time either fixing them food, eating food, or cleaning up after fixing food. They ate a whole pound of bacon for breakfast (and I didn't get any of it!)

Still off the rails, but I had a revelation of sorts today. I've been thinking I want to have someone come in and do a thorough cleaning of my kitchen and bathroom. One girl we've used charges $10/hour with a 5-hour minimum, and the other lady charges $20/hour. (The $10/hr person tends to complain a lot about her life, so it's almost worth it to pay the extra to not have to listen to it.) Anyway, the revelation was that IIII could clean the bathroom and pay MYSELF for doing it! I made a 59-point list of things that need to be done to accomplish the bathroom task. No, we don't have a 1,200 square foot bathroom - I just break everything down into miniscule steps so I can accomplish one in just a couple minutes. Cleaning the shower, for instance, is a 17-step process! It's not something that I can just go in and do all in one stint.

I think what I'll do is play my Wordscapes game on my phone and any time I don't find at least three words that they don't have listed. If I only find 2, I'll have to do 1 job. If I only find 1, I'll have to do two jobs, and if I don't find any extras, I'll have to do three jobs. I will time each job with my stopwatch and add up all the minutes and then pay myself $15/hour for the accomplishment. (I'm thinking it will take 2 hours to complete the job - that's including cleaning the windows, cleaning out the medicine cabinet and EVERYTHING!)

If this works, I can do the same thing with the kitchen. A friend of mine used to say, "If I'm going to work up a sweat (exercising), I want to be accomplishing something (she LOVES to clean!)" She didn't just exercise to exercise. The multi-pronged goal here is to increase my activity level (along with getting the bathroom clean, giving me a sense of accomplishment, reducing a stressor, etc.)

I know none of that has anything much to do with dieting, or should I say "WOE-ing". But, I think it is my plan for tomorrow.

One more thought ... Jack Canfield says, "100% is EASY. 99% is HARD." If you are doing something 100% of the time, there is no bartering with yourself about whether or not this is the 1% time when you WON'T do it. I ran into that problem when I was exercising -- I only PLANNED to exercise 5 days a week, so I was always arguing with myself about whether TODAY was a day I was going to take off. I think I'm going to try to start doing more things 100%. I know that is what works best for me with my Way of Eating. When I'm doing perfectly, I can just keep on doing that. As soon as I make a concession, I start to justify more and more of them until the whole thing is thrown out the window.

Ok, done sharing. Go back to your life.

I've done real well with my Wordscapes/Bathroom plan today, Shirley! My husband laid down for a nap and threw me off, but I have managed to accomplish 22 of the 59 jobs so far! Basically (by most people's standards) I cleaned the toilet, sink and mirror, and tidied the medicine cabinet - Still LOTS to do, and looking forward to making a bit more progress tonight and then FINISHING tomorrow. I've not been keeping track of the TIME involved in doing each job since I only do 1-3 of them at a time, but I'll pay myself somewhere between $20-$50 when it's totally completed.
