melissatwa's Journal, 19 Oct 19

So miserable to post this gain... I'm terribly tempted to wait a few days and work it away, but my commitment is to record every Saturday. So... Here it is. It has been holding at this weight several days and I know several reasons why. I ate more on a couple celebration days early in the week. I am also not walking so much because of the weather. It is just not possible for me to put in the 40 miles a week walking I was doing. Perhaps the biggest reason is I started going to the gym nearly every day. For a bunch of reasons, it didn't happen earlier but I had been working out hard at home with bands and weights. I don't feel too bad, but every muscle is for sure being used now. I know I haven't gained muscle yet, but I suspect more water is in them as I'm getting accustomed to the new routine?? The PF is just about 3.5 miles from our house, so my cardio has been running home. The last two miles are darn good elevation change up from the lake to our house, so I have to walk a bit of the time since I am already pretty weary from working out. OK... So lots of noise here. This is a journal for me, so I sure don't expect anyone to have to read this blastedly long entry. 😁

I read it and it's good to get your feelings out. You are still doing great. Just keep with your WOE and your workouts as I know you will. If you stress, you can see a gain. Stress is not your friend. Tell him/her to get lost!!

I read it. Not "gain," - fluctuation ;) Nice job on 3.5 run from PF to house. Stay on the path. You are healthy. You are at an ideal weight. You are fit.

Thank you, Erquiaga, rgaDawg, and keyten! Your supportive words help me so much! I'm so wanting to do well, and I know stressing doesn't help... I know I just have to keep doing the work and being careful to stick to what I know! ♥️♥️

My assessment as a strength and weights person myself is that your body is adjusting the new movement and the fluctuation up is do to inflammation and muscle repair. When I first started over 2 years ago, I could literally go up 3 lbs in water weight and inflammation after a weights/and or resistance day. I don't fluctuate that much anymore, but I've been doing it consistently now for 2 1/2 years. In the beginning, it felt like it took this body over-all about 6 months to adjust to being moved and used this way.

Thanks, Egull, for taking the time to tell me your experience! I have steadily been increasing my weights at home, but the transition to the gym is great. The equipment available and the ease of using the dumbbells that I don't have to screw apart to change the weight is terrific! In just a week, I can feel the difference. Your stability in maintenance and the hard work you put in is really encouraging to me!

Read it all, if you feel soreness it’s a sign that the muscles are repairing themselves. There will be a little bit of water weight from that. I like the way you think and that you take responsibility for what you have control over. You will succeed❣️

The extra eating on celebration days is probably why the gain. At least I know that happens to me and it seems to take 3-5 days to work itself out as long as I just get back to eating per my WOE. I post my weight every Sunday now and was surprised to see my weight up 3 pounds Tuesday, I assume because I ate meatloaf! But I'm thinking my weigh in day, tomorrow will show a loss unless I eat the butterfinger in the fridge!

Read it. I am in the 'fluctuation camp'. I think you're going to see a woosh when you're not so sore.

Thanks, Moopie! I am pretty darn sore. Even dawnie might be proud of my "ass to grass," weighted swats. But, I also know, as you said, Fritzy, I did have extra calories earlier in the week. I just want to keep working and thinking carefully through what I am doing. Bella, your vote is noted and liked! I'm loving your prediction! Gonna work toward that! I finally did take detailed measurements today. I never have done more than my waistline and enjoyed getting rid of clothes that don't fit anymore! 😁

Up and down is the name of the game.. You are doing well

You are doing great! I always go up and down a couple a pounds around my heavy gym sessions. And working out and then running home?! Ugh I could never 🤣🤣 Just keep at it and don’t stress about a tiny bit of a gain from the party food as long as you don’t have multiple parties every week 😜

Thank you, liv! Like someone I know... 😁I'd really like any "up an downs to be below goal weight. I've gotta keep at it always. 🙄

Thanks dawnie! I probably couldn't run if I worked out as hard as you. :) On the flat, I can make pretty good time, but I'm struggling for sure when I get to steep parts. Legs are just too worn out. I do totally think of you when at the gym. I even went back and looked at a type of squat you posted where the bar is in front and held by elbows. I tried, but the weight seems too much and hurt the inside of my arms. I think I will keep to holding it in front sometimes but with hands. There is a mirror just in front of the square rack thing so I don't have to position a phone for recording at such a lovely angle as you described! 😁

Stay positive - even when I over do it (cheat days etc ) I still work out and have to remind myself “ every little bit matters “- don’t be so hard on yourself - you got this 💪

And when I mean “ every lit bit matters “- even if I do eat more than usual - I still keep my routine to stay on track as much as possible 😀

Thank you, CharlieLoves! Your encouragement is... Actually just what I need. This journey isn't easy, so we just keep trudging and doing the best we can to enjoy our good days and not let the not so good days take over.

Sounds to me like you have all the answers you need, or figured them out while making this post! Everthing is going to be just fine.

Girl- Your body is gonna be amazing! It's just repairing! 🤸🏻‍♂️💗

No worries - you have been doing great!

Thanks, Jamie! Yeah... "Talking it out" sorta helps process the... Process. Thank you, HCB! Princess, I wish I could actually sit down and ask you a bunch of questions about how you work out. I want to make sure I'm hitting everything well and consistently. Now that I'm actually at the gym, questions keep popping up in my head. My hubby is helping me learn how to use the equipment and work on form. He has consistently lifted and worked out for 4 years. But... He does his thing his way, and I'm not sure it matches me.
