Debbie Cousins's Journal, 13 Jun 19

Well, Tuesday was the anniversary dinner. But, instead of going out for dinner, we went out for lunch and then ate all of the leftovers for dinner! SO, I took in twice as much food as I had planned to. The most disappointing thing (other than gaining almost four pounds!) was that the place that carries the German Chocolate Cake was OUT OF IT! I had a piece of carrot cake, but it was totally UNsatisfying when I have been looking forward to the German Chocolate for almost a week!

Yesterday (Wednesday), I didn't record anything, but I really didn't eat anything I wasn't supposed to (except for the 1/2 baked potato that my husband decided not to eat and 3 BITES of a pint of ice cream to get it out of the freezer). Was disappointed that this morning my weight was STILL up to 180! So far today, recording everything I'm eating.

I am developing an extreme dislike for both yoyos and roller coasters!!!

So did you not get your outback steak either? That is sad about the cake. Maybe another time. Hope the scale cooperates tomorrow. Happy anniversary debbie

Hey, it's ok to take a step or two back from time to time ;) The most important thing, get on track just after!

We got the steak, @liv001. The German Chocolate Pie was from another place - well, it was SUPPOSED to be! Outback doesn't have it on their dessert menu, which I knew going into it, but my husband LOVES Outback, so we planned dinner there and takeout dessert from Primas (which is an Italian place and NOT conducive to weight loss!)

I’m with you on yo-yos and roller coasters! 😂 And this gain will whoosh away—you’ve done this before, you’ll do it again. I hope they have your cake next time!

Debbie— then you get a rain check. Just a future suggestion, skip the dessert altogether because you are chasing the German choc. Flavor and a “substitute” really does not cut it. Take that rain check and come in for coffee and cake on another day when you have called ahead and had two pieces reserved. Saves all those calories\carbs.

Happy Anniversary - and carrot cake is not a substitute for German chocolate cake...just saying.

Thank you, everyone, for your good wishes. I agree that I should have taken a "rain check" on the German Chocolate Cake. I've still got my birthday coming next Thursday, and I'll be SURE that I get my slice reserved early in the day -- if one place doesn't have it, I know two more that might. As a last resort, I have a German Chocolate boxed cake mix and the Coconut-Pecan frosting and can make one myself -- but that's a last resort because I'd have to give away all but one piece to keep from eating the whole thing myself.

Debbie— cakes are soooo easy to make from scratch. I packed away all of my normal size baking pans; cake, pie, bread— the works and replaced them with small size or mini size. My square cake pans are six inches, my pie pan makes 2-3 pieces. Even my layer cake ones only make 4 pieces. No leftovers to haunt you. When I have company I drag them out if more than 4 people. Once you have had homemade German chocolate or any other cake, you will NEVER BUY A BOX MIX AGAIN.

I think the odd treat IS life! I mean, if we deny ourselves things that give us pleasure, then WOW, that's more like punishment. The art is to restrict the treats to, maybe, once a month. And there lies the problem with some people, and I include myself in that.......

I always enjoy reading your postings... so down to earth and honest. One day does not change all the work youve done for yourself and to motivate others. One step...one day at a time.
