Debbie Cousins's Journal, 15 Apr 19

I have decided to stay on my WOE 97% of the time. That means that out of 28 meals/snacks in a week, I will allow ONE meal or snack to be whatever I want, and I won't enter it into my Food Diary, but WILL still be accountable in telling you what it was. Last night, for my Snack, I had one small piece of Keto Brownie Cheesecake AND a Keto cinnamon roll with butter and cream cheese. I did not record these items in my Food Diary or let them count into my RDI for Calories. I could have had anything I wanted; but, what I really wanted was what I had. Maybe next week I'll make it something a little more risque, like a slice of German Chocolate Pie, or a bowl of Chicken 'n Dumplins that I need to make for my son's birthday meal (a couple months late). I feel good about what I'm doing. The key objective for me is to continue eating properly ALMOST all of the time without stressing over having one "cheat" meal or snack per week, and not having to try to "make up for it" afterward.

You need to do what works for you. And this sounds like a sound plan to me. You keep figuring out what you can do for your lifetime WOE.

It sounds smart to me. Yes, I want to allow a splurge also, and once a week sounds incredible. Yes, will be hard waiting for it, but then again, it's better than never. Years ago I allowed myself to have wine twice a week and I did stick with it "for a time". Now, I have only had it once since November. But I'm afraid if I have wine or a dessert that I will "fall off the wagon". I'm glad for you, that you can do it, without it triggering you "for more". I've heard that if you have sugar, you have to "start over" with Keto. If that's true, how long does it take for your body to become fat burning again, rather than sugar burning?

Hmmm...I've often heard 'if you need to cheat on your diet it's not the right diet for you' and your normal woe is so varied and delicious I'm confused about the need to consider a 'cheat meal'. I think it's great that you're still keeping it keto but not understanding the no-recording. Do you just feel like you need to 'get away with something' now and then? I realize I'm reacting to my own thoughts and your process could be 180 degrees a way. It seems to me that to record it will reflect 'it was my choice to eat what I ate and look, the wheels didn't fall off so nothing to regret'. I'm all for loosening the reigns for how many ever meals you need or want to be able to sustain the life long commitment; no one can eat perfect 100%. If they can, I don't want to know them, LOL. I dunno. I'm shutting up now. Sorry.

Cheating is about deception and dishonesty. If you are planning for it and documenting it, it not cheating, it's just adding flexibility to your diet.

I like your alternative for "cheating," @ConiMN - "adding flexibility" to my diet! @snowwhite100, DON'T follow my example if you're afraid it could trigger a fall off the wagon or put you out of ketosis! I want to emphasize that I'm doing what I think is working for me at this stage in my life. There have been many times in my life when I could NOT have done this without having those very results myself. The "problem," @FullaBella, is that there are things that I want to have that just canNOT be fit into my RDI for calories, or into my Net Carbs (whichever I am most focused on at the time). I DO kinda feel the need to be "perfect," even though I know that the only One who was ever perfect was Jesus! I especially want to be a good example to the people in my challenges. I feel peace about the "one splurge a week" plan, and I'll see how it works. This morning, I was down even more, but I forgot to weigh until later in the morning, after I had already reported on my challenges AND gone grocery shopping, eaten breakfast already.

I have days that I eat something that doesn't exactly fit into my plan, but I always record it and own and move on. I think the main key to success is to own what you eat and NEVER give up. Everyone needs to eat a treat now and then.

Today, I'm actually able to fit in a piece of Keto Brownie Cheesecake without going over on anything.

I know, it's your life, your journal, but, this just doesn't make sense to me.🤔

@liv001 and @keyten77, thanks for your kind and encouraging words.

I would appreciate it if people would stop using MY Journal as a place to air their negativity and critical spirits. Though I DO like to hear "the truth" from kind people, when the "tone" of such comments becomes harsh or judgmental - yes, I prefer to delete those comments. If you feel this is referring to you, kindly remove me from your list of Followed people. Neither of us should waste the time engaging in such discussion any further.

Oh oh, did you already delete comments? Or are you speaking of us still here? If I was negative speaking of my fear on your journal I abjectly apologize. Please forgive me. I did say I thought your plan was smart and incredible, but maybe I should leave my experience and fears to my own journal. Debbie, there are hundreds, or thousands here that love you so much, we are all just trying to work our way through life coping the best we can, and trying to understand others. How do we know if we should feel this is referring to us? There are probably lots of us pretty obtuse. Love, Sis

No, Snowy, your comment was fine. I only left in the ones that were positive and/or encouraging.

Mark Sisson the author of "Primal Blueprint" and "Keto Reset" calls it refueling instead of cheating. Love that! Give your insulin a little exercise here and there. Good for you Debbie. This is essentially what I do (without a calculated plan) and have for once in my life have not seen big fluctuations in my weight for over 3 months.

Exactly and I think thats a great plan no need in stressing yourself out over a few small choices like that. It keeps us sane. If we tried ignoring those cravings ALL the time we (or to speak for myself) I would eventually binge out. Its good to keep it even keel. And not completely deprive ourselves of a few treats every now and then 😊👍🏻💪🏻 We work hard and deserve it!
