Debbie Cousins's Journal, 01 Feb 19

Ok, FatSecret friends, I need H-E-L-P!!! I'm not at all pleased with the direction things are going the past couple days. All this dental trauma and pain has really thrown me for a loop. I even ALMOST had Diet Coke yesterday! If there would have been a bottle in the house, I would have drunk it, I DID have a couple glasse of Sprite Zero, and went back to get another glass first thing this morning. I forgot how good it feels to wake my mouth up with a carbonated beverage. I recorded everything I ate yesterday, and it was quite disturbing! USUALLY, my Calories are below 1,500 - yesterday, they were 2,384! I've been SLEEPING 12-18 hours a day. Haven't bothered to enter the little bit of exercise I HAVE done. If anybody lives close to Richmond, Virginia, would you come over and kick me in the butt to get me back on track?

You can do it! We all have these moments .....I think you need a hug not a kick on the butt 😄🙌🙌

I agree with Sweetlysad... a hug is more in order. But, I also understand comfort food when we feel poorly, plus as u mentioned in a post, you were given comfort foods as a child whenever u were ill. I was likewise. Plus, we lived quite poorly, so having a special food such as pop, pizza or something not part of the meal only reinforced food as comfort. So, decide how long you want to allow some comfort, then get back on your horse, so to speak. I put on 15 lbs last March bc I was so sick and drank orange juice constantly, believing it would help me get well. I am still working on just getting that 15 lb gain off. It is amazing just how fast we can put it on, and how long it takes to get it back off. Thinking of u!

Oh, Debbie...if I was there, I'd run right over and do the kicking for you. But, there's too many miles between us. Hope you get it back in check. And, by the way, Listerine (I know, yuck, yuck...) works as good as soda for freshening the mouth...and with that tooth (hole) it might be a better choice...Hope you feel better soon.

I know you can do this. Just a little bump in the road. My opinion is you have shocked your system and you may see some amazing results now when you are back on track.

You've got this! Decide when you're ready to get back to your regular routine. You're stronger than you think!

Debbie you are doing wonderful. I think your body just was catching up getting a bit more food in since you food intake was lower the days previously. And you are doing so well dealing with this difficult thing. If you like bubbles have you tried carbonated water. I had a huge diet coke addiction as well and now I drink carbonated water sometimes with a piece of lemon or lime in it.

Stress can also cause you to hang onto weight, I've experienced that myself, and tooth pain is the worst because it's RIGHT THERE so there is no way to really distance yourself like a broken foot or hand. Given the current circumstances you are dealing with YOU ARE DOING FABULOUS! Be kind to yourself and keep tracking so you can use the info to make informed decisions. I also prefer carbonated beverages so I have a soda stream that I add a splash of fruit juice to for a hint of flavor.

You MIGHT try soda water as Jenjabba says. It has no calories but tastes good. However PROBABLY not supposed to drink soda for a few days after extractions anyway! Definitely don't use a straw right? If you take it easy for just a few more days I'll bet you'll be ready to face the world again and your healthy lifestyle too. I was sick last week and all I wanted to eat was chicken soup. I just throw some diced onions mushrooms whatever veg is in the fridge in the microwave with some sesame oil. Add frozen chicken to the mix in a pan on the stove and then add water or broth whatever you've got. Sometimes add a hot pepper to keep it from tasting weird but thats optional. I use KITCHEN SHEARS to chop up the chicken in the pan as it cooks. Five minutes of work and you can add noodles as needed to make you happy but if you go easy on the noodles, no calories. Almost no calories, no time, no money and very happy. Hope you feel better. x

when I had to fast for a procedure, I drank diet soda. I figured it's just once, and it kept me on the "fast". sometimes you just got to do something to make yourself feel better temporarily. It will get better and you'll get back on track! I'll come kick your butt if you don't ;)

Thanks, everyone for the encouragement and kind comments. I sometimes forget to treat MYSELF as I would treat one of you! I wouldn't be so harsh with anyone else as I am with myself - I'd be much more understanding and encouraging, instead of harsh and punative. Thanks for reminding me to love myself!

could you be gaining a little bit of muscle? or water retention? I did not read all the comments so sorry if I repeated anyone's comment.. you can do this! being on here is the best and you are showing you want this .. just keep going don't give up :)

@cherik1, unfortunately NO WAY I've gained any muscle. Water retention is a possiblity since I drank the Sprite Zero last night and this morning. Diet Coke is my real ADDICTION, but even something as different as a Sprite Zero can be a segway to returning to my arch-enemy. I'm SOOOO glad I made my friends take the two 2-liter bottles of Diet Coke out of my house a couple days ago! Now, I can say i've gone 1 month without any. NEED to drink water, though!

Debbie, it's the caffeine and fake sugars in the diet coke that are addicting. Soda water is good with a slice of lemon or lime. Sprite is going to also have the fake sugars. Artificial sugars can actually cause weight gain, according to many studies. Tonic water also can be if it's one without sugars or artificial sweeteners, I forget which brand has that. Some days are just over the limit. Just adapt for a few days do lower, a day is something we create it's over time that means the most. Your weight graph is amazing!!!!!!!!!!

Hi!! You dont need a kick in the butt! Not at all. I completely understand on the carbonated beverages. Have you ever tried sparkling waters? They have all sorts of flavors. La Croix, Waterloo, Ozarka, and Perrier are my favorite brands. Not only does it help with water intake, but satisfies that carbonation feeling, too. Drinking bone broth will help, too, especially with the dental work. Most importantly, be kind to yourself. You got this!!

I love carbonated beverages...the best thing I ever did was buy a soda stream...don't buy the crap they sell for flavoring...it isn't worth it. you can control what you add to the sparkling water. For me its simple syrup with loads less sugar or you can buy Monin Syrups I haven't checked the sugar free flavors because if you behave you can drink it with half of a serving. They use real sugar and a lot of them are pretty low carb.
