Debbie Cousins's Journal, 31 Jan 19

This tooth extraction is really messing me up. On Monday, I only had 978 Calories. On Tuesday, only 605 Calories. On Wednesday, 1043. (My RDI is 1700.) I've done basically NO Exercise, and have missed my Fiber goals all three days. Even with all these shortcomings, I have done much better than my pre-programming WANTED to do! I had a toncilectomy at age five, and got to eat ice cream, and pudding, and jello. Every time I was sick as a child, my Mom would give me an Almond Joy and a Pepsi. So far, I've been CRAVING a lot of things that I'm "normally" fine without. I REALLY have been wanting mashed potatoes and a Diet Coke, but today is my 31st day without DC, and I don't want to start over from Day Zero -- well, actually, I would probably go on a binge and get back up to drinking 2 liters per day for several months before I would be able to START abstaining again.

My tooth is still bothering me today, and when I woke up this morning, the end of one of the stitches had embedded itself into the roof of my mouth and I had to dig it out. I have to go back to the dentist TODAY to get the two temporary crowns yanked out, and have the two permanent crowns attached, PLUS get the Essix Retainer ground down to be able to fit in my mouth. Yesterday afternoon, after I talked to the dental assistant to set up the appointment, I collapsed in a pool of tears, DREADING the procedures, which I know will mean SEVERAL more shots in my mouth, and more trauma (both physically and emotionally).

I can't afford to have the "laughing gas" ($70 per 15 minutes, and it's a 1 hour 10 minute procedure); so, I called my twin friends and asked them if they would TAKE me to the dentist and bring me back home (so I can drug myself before going!) I'm going to take TWO of my anti-anxiety pills, TWO of my muscle relaxers, ONE high-powered pain pill. I hope all that will sedate me enough to not care what they're doing, and not be so disturbed by the pain. I USED to have a very HIGH tolerance for pain - two natural childbirths with no drugs whatsoever. Now, just THINKING about getting those painful shots in my mouth causes me to want to run for the hills!

Anyway, my apologies to my Daily Accountability 2019-#4 members for not being the shining example I been to previous groups. USUALLY, I meet all of the mini-goals every day! It is my prayer, even though I am very weak right now, that YOU would be strong! MAKE ME PROUD, folks!

Omgosh Debbie... feel sad for you. R u sure it is all right to take such a combination of pills prior to the shots, etc? Personally, I would borrow the money from someone for the laughing gas and set up a small repayment plan by cutting back in other area... Christmas presents... birthday presents...telling family and friends, I had to cut back or eliminate one year... But, , that is me. I too cannot tolerate horrific pain, anymore, so I get how you’re feeling. Sure hoping it works out well for you. Joani Justdoit!

Just promise me that if you do take all of those pills, you will tell your dentist about it, before he decides how much to numbing agent to shoot you with. We do not want to read about Miss Debbie's Dental Demise...Hope all goes well for you

I think the shots are the worst part of dental procedures along with waiting for the effects to where off. Hang in there and get it done. It's worth the discomfort...

I know how you feel. It takes the nerve pain about 3-4 weeks to go away from each shot. I have FMS and just sitting and trying to relax (ha ha) can put me in bed for a few days. I need to set an apt with my dentist to get temp filling (swelling on gum)to root canal. oh s&>/. Hope you catch a nice ride there and back and all goes well. Smiles!

Thanks everyone. I survived the dental procedures today. With taking all the meds before I went, I was calm, and didn't feel the pain from the shots as much as I normally would have. I have TWO more dental appointments coming up - one next week to get the Essix Retainer whittled down to the right size. The other appoint is on 2/11 to get the stitches removed, and see what the status is as far as being healed enough to implant the post for the tooth implant. My friends drove me to and from the appoingment, and I've been much better today than I was yesterday - at least fear-wise!

Glad to hear that Debbie. You were very brave. Not sure I could do that.
