Monday - January 28th

I was deliriously happy yesterday to have a fasting blood sugar of 90. Insanely overjoyed and practically dancing around the house. Much like I used to do whenever there was a drop on the weight scale. I was Queen of the World, I’d figured out this WOE, la-la-la-lala.

Then this morning my FBS was 184 and I was quite frustrated. Insanely upset and stomping around the house. Much like I used to do whenever there was an increase on the weight scale. I am a troll. A moron. Someone shoot me.

Meanwhile, I do know I’ve lost some weight or at least volume because I’m walking faster without breathing hard and can bend over to reach the hood release in my car without opening the door. I’m not going to step on the scale though. I don’t need two machines tossing out mood altering numbers at me. One is enough.

But the High BS? What was it? What was so different (translate ‘better’) Friday and Saturday from Sunday? Could it have been the Sunday crock pot cooked pinto beans - although low on the glycemic index and considered the diabetics friend? Quantity vs quality as I had four cups throughout the day and carbs are carbs?

I love to have something simmering in the crock pot. It makes me feel … homey. Settled. Comforted. But it’s darn near impossible to make a single serving of beans. And while not impossible, it’s really difficult to eat only one ½ cup serving of those homey comforting beans. Heck, ½ a cup intake just in the ‘tasting’. But, if that was the culprit (and for now, I must accept it was) than, well, portioning I will do.

If it wasn’t the beans then it’s the Glucerna. My physician recommended this as a healthy bedtime snack to replace a ½ peanut butter sandwich and ½ cup of milk. I didn’t have it Friday or Saturday night because I had tuna and cheese instead… and I had fantastic FBS the following days. I had one last night. Could it be the thing that’s supposed to be good for me isn’t? That will be too bad if that’s it - I have more than a case of it.

Could it just be that the protein works better for me than the glucerna?

So a customer brought me a box of chocolates today. I gave him the loaf of banana bread I’d bought last week from one of those church ministries. Circle of life. I’ll re-gift this before the end of the day.

Hope you find out what's causing the spike in your blood sugar. Good luck.

Hey Bella - betcha it’s the beans. Carbs are carbs - period. IMO for sure tuna, cheese and PB (no bread) would be most excellent! Good luck as you figure it out.

I can’t eat beans without my blood sugars rising., I don’t know anything about Gluceema. It could have been the combination or one or the other. You can do trials. A day with the beans. A day with the Glucema. Then a day again with both. Low on the glycemic index doesn’t help me. My body doesn’t seem to differentiate.

A friend of mine shared this afternoon that the doc had her drink glucerna when she needed to put weight on after an injury. Hmm.. So time to donate that to a shelter. I agree.. Even low on the glycemic scale I think there are too many carbs for me to be eating beans right now. Thanks all.

I'm testing a lot more than I used to for that very reason - elimination. Just because some food 'should' be okay for most people doesn't mean it will always be that way for whatever is going on with my body.

Good plan. And, sometimes blood sugars may vary because of stress, illness, and exercise. Keep those in mind as you monitor your blood sugars.
