Dropped more water today. One more week and then a 3 or 4 day fast to end the month.

Hi... sounds like you have been fasting for sometime... I need some guidance. I have been dabbling in intermittent fasting for a couple years. Now sure if I was doing it correctly or not? I lost about 20lbs and then I gained it back doing the same things... I am wanting to learn to fast for longer periods of time but not sure what if any food is taken in during a week long fast for example? So happy to see some familiar faces... hope im not intruding... thanks Christina

But in reading his book, he was saying he did that because of compliance issues. Most folks simply won't go without eating for several days. But as I eat pretty keto levels (extreme low carb usually), I'm really never get hungry. I eat once a day at dinner and I do not get hungry during the day. More...

So based on that, and based on reading and listening to Dr. Jason Fung on YouTube, I decided to try a three-day fast once a month (instead of the fasting mimicking diet which I did with success a few months). I have done that 2-3 times and it worked out great. I lost about 10 pounds each time. More...

I have now committed to doing it once a month. The last few times I did it, I did not get hungry, but I did get a bit dizzy on the last morning of the second time I did it. I'm going to try to add a day this time. Not sure what types of fasting you've tried, but what else can I answer? Bill

Twice I've done 24-hour fasts in the last year. Once on purpose, one accidentally. Wish I could do longer or more often but I just get too hungry.

Thanks, Toodle... The ghrelin that drops when it's time to eat usually goes away if you just ignore the meal time. It does not continue to build your appetite. But that's if you are pretty fat-adapted. If you are used to eating carbs every day, I think that would be harder. I sure was hard to stick with low calorie when I ate a lot of carbs every day.

Thanks, 60pack. Six years of learning new things up here. I lost the first 150 with CICO but have tried many other strategies to maintain the loss (or close to it). Lower carbs keeps me from getting hungry, if it doesn't do anything else.

I am fasting for 24 hours right now. I will normally have supper and a snack within a 4 hour window. I did this for about two weeks and didn't drop a single pound. What could I be doing to sabotage my efferts? I drink coffee black and water during my fasting but that's it? Am I supposed to keep my calories under or around 500 or should I be consuming more calories during the 4 hour eating window?

@Christina Maria Thompson - What works for me is to carefully log everything I eat. First this showed me that when I did eat I needed less than 10 carbs a day to lose weight. Later I found that HUGE amounts of protein powder would slow my weight loss. Only careful logging reveled this. Consuming 500 or 800 calories did not make a difference. Yesterday I consumed 800 calories and still lost two pounds.

Hi Christina. I agree with that. I went to look at your food and found that you are not logging it, so it's hard to say what that issue might be. Limiting the time you eat will allow your body to use stored body fat for the other 20 hours (or for as long as it takes for your body to burn through the glycogen in your system). Eat as many calories as you need to feel satiated, but concentrate on protein and fat.
