Steven Lloyd's Journal, 08 Sep 18

Almost 100% healed up from my big bike crash in July and getting lots of road and a few mountain bike rides in the last month and a half.

Since last weigh in I've hit my lowest BF% since my mid twenties, all due to lots of bike miles, even though I have tried to up my calorie intake to match expenditures in order to keep leg strength and endurance up on back to back big days.

Weight is down more than I'd like from set weight but mostly due to not working the upper body very hard as every non-essential, extra pound makes going up hill much harder.

I'll work on the upper body a bit more once biking season winds down and ski season starts back up....hopefully I haven't lost too much strength and endurance through the back & shoulders. However, big benefit...legs and core are very solid and strong for me at this time of year...#ski_season_coming.

So far I've logged 2,454 miles & 71,830 ft climbed this year...all but one ride from May 11 on. Lot's of weeks with over 1000 Intensity Minutes too... highest was week of July 9th at 1357 Intensity Minutes.

My road bike average speed, time trial and sprint speed have steadily improved, along with seeing my overall endurance improving too. I'm hitting lots of personal bests as well as comparing pretty well with some hard core bikers on Strava.

Finally, doing the mad scramble trying to get ready for a three week plus trip to Italy 🇮🇪...should be fun 😎 🍷. Take care

Cheers,
Steven

Yo Steven, I'm glad to hear you have fully recovered. That's a very good thing, especially when we are not as young as we used to be. I appreciate your inspirational example of continued fitness...

Thanks John, I'm really happy to have "found" a new way to keep my endurance and leg/core strength up that doesn't feel like mind numbing exercise. I biked before, but getting a high performance road bike (even though used) has increased the fun factor many fold...even motivated me to trade out my old, heavy mountain bike for a newer, lighter model.

You bet Gary, we will be doing our best to "sample" both the food and excellent local wines...we already have a wine tasting dinner and overnight pre-booked at Ornellaia in Bolgheri, Tuscany, with a few more stops in the region to visit some of our local favorites. Lots of hiking, exploring and foot travel planned...hopefully we'll offset some of the extra cals. :-)
