Draglist's Journal, 13 Jan 15

Several days of significant calorie deficits still have not made a dent in Saturday's indulgence day, so recording the 11 pound gain that remains. Body is still not feeling back to normal. I hate to say it, but it looks like I'll have to cut certain foods out completely. Continuing to target a 1000 calorie per day deficit.

Seems like our bodies like to keep us guessing sometimes. Once yours lets loose of the water it'll probably drop the excess quickly, no doubt you'll make it happen. Have a good day Bill.

Bill you took in a lot of fiber yesterday which is great, I wonder if that has a temporary effect of holding water in your digestive tract until a bowel movement? Just a thought.

This too shall pass, just keep on the right track and you know it will come off! Have yourself a wonderful day!

I'm afraid that's where I am too. I already know this, but here we go again.

I know it stinks to cut certain foods, but if you think about it almost like a food allergy, the allergy being that you gain 1.5 pounds and 9.5 pounds of water whenever you eat those foods, it might be easier to adjust to.

I *like* Dom's thought on relating it to an allergy. I may try that or something similar for myself, thanks Dom. AND BILL,I had to look up the word extrapolate,LOL

I don't think certain foods are the problem, it's your overindulging on some days, you suffer because of those days for weeks. Also, alcohol is just empty calories ;-)

So glad holidays are behind me no, hard to get on track, but you got to do what you got to do, some days to be honest it sucks.

So if you are cutting 1000 calories a day, how many calories do you need to consume to stay as you are? This always confused me a bit.

I needed this journal entry so much. The scale hasn't moved in days and I wonder if it was my weekend of fun is to blame. My calories were under my RDI by alomst 1/2 yesterday but I was dissapointed to see no change this morning. Then finally getting onto FS for the 1st time today(1:52 PM), I come across this post and now I have hope again. I feel your pain.

There are several factors to losing weight. While counting calories is very important, if you are not consuming adequate calories for your body to continue to function normally, your system will go into a crisis mode and lower your metabolism just to accommodate for the lack of calories (energy for your body). It is important that while you are reducing the number of calories you are eating, that you don't go so low that your body goes into this mode. The scale will stop at that point for sure and many will even start putting on weight again. In addition to this, maintaining the same calorie intake for too long will also cause your body to "learn and adjust" to that calorie intake which will also cause you to plateau. It is important to have a cheat meal once every week or two to keep your body guessing. Another thing to consider, is the amount of carbs you are eating. Your body is programmed to burn carbs before burning fat cells. If you are eating excessive carbs, your body may never start to burn the fatty cells that we are all wanting to lose. Look up ketosis. I say this as I've been dieting over the last 3 years and have lost over 100 lbs. I've tried several diets and had varying success with each of them. At the end of the day, the one that seems to be working the most is calorie counting with a close eye on my carbs (focusing on complex carbs being the ones I am eating). I am 14 lbs from my goal weight, I have increased my muscle mass and am currently down to 24% BF with a goal to reach 15-18% in the next 6 months. Anyway, not trying to sound like a know it all. God knows I'm not trying to be that person. But I am sharing what I've learned over the years.

Your averages for the past Sat,Sun, Mon- Calorie intake per day 2387, Your net calories were only 1328/ Sodium was 3812- Which is not that bad-especially some sodium levels days I have had Your Body Could be reacting to Job Stress- Give it time, weight will drop again- you may be having a catch up delay.

Since I Did Bill's Averages its only fair to do mine/ my calorie intake for past 3 days not counting any calorie burn is 1432 and my sodium is 4580- PAM

I am sure you bounced back from 220 after a road trip last year.. So I am sure you will put yourself where you aim to be. Hope the new job is going well.

Maybe eating like that caused an inflammation in your gut. That would cause a lot of water weight. You might be right about eliminating some things from your diet, just to sooth the gut and get it calmed down. Does this make sense? I have no idea what I am talking about really. Ha Ha!

Sorry for any confusion. I don't believe you put on more than about 1.5 pounds of "weight" and that the rest is water. That's what I meant by 1.5 pounds of actual weight (again, just a guess) plus 9.5 in accompanying water weight. Who knows if I'm close or way off, but when a person gains 11 pounds in only a few days, it's clear that it's almost all bloat and back-up. When you've cut 1000 calories from what you are burning daily, you lose that 1.5 pounds of excess weight in about 5 days, and the water is bound to flee along with it. You have shown this to be true several times in the past. Again, just a wild guess and the ratio could be way off, but my main point was about thinking about some like an allergy. My poison these days is mashed potatoes. One serving, and I'm ill for hours. Great job in fighting the good fight, Bill. I admire your ability to take ownership of your food journal and log everything so accurately. You inspire me to do the same on the days I'm feeling lazy. I think, "Bill wouldn't leave this snack off his food log, neither can you!"

Bill you are so honest. I believe that is why people find you inspirational.
