Draglist's Journal, 05 Dec 14

Down to 210.2 pre-dinner after an 875 calorie day at work (coconut oil coffee, two protein bars, two 100 calorie bags of almonds, and a protein shake). Denise bought me a pre-roasted chicken breast as she was going out with friends tonight. I ate the entire thing. Oops, 1000 calories and 2400 grams of sodium, but all protein. Up to 1924 calories so will jump on the treadmill for a bit to try to burn about 200 more calories. Coming down with something so I should just jump in bed, but I'll get some good sleep tonight. I just ordered one of the very first Fitbit Surge devices. I got on a notification list and the word came today. They have already shipped it and it may be here tomorrow. It's the built in watch, chest strap-free heart monitor, and Fitbit device all in one. I'll be reporting on that bad boy when I get it. Have a good weekend!

Looks like the Surge does it all. The new clip-on is a great value, but suffers from the same problem as the Shine: battery insertion.

I believe the Surge is one of the few to do continuous heart rate. The Withings Pulse measures by placing your finger on a sensor and I'm doesn't aleays "take." Frustrating. Even if Denise doesn't take the Flex, you will have a backup - although with a strap, you're less likely to lose. Like the smart phone makers, fitness trackers are in an arms race to add more features. I believe my next step up will be the Garmin VivoSmart.

Doesn't always take...

I just found out my Nokia 635 shipped. I assume it would sync with the Microsoft Band. I believe Microsoft has a fitness/health API like Google Fit and Apple, but I haven't looked into it.

I wonder if the heart rate monitors people strap on their chests are going the way of the buggy whip. I keep reading comments from people who find them irksome.
