41 hours into a much needed fast for me after my lake trip and eating/treating extravanganza. I didn't regret it as it was centered around good times & family but...1 week post, it feels exactly like the mechanics of xmas. Elation giving & receiving gifts on dec 25th then january & the credit card bill comes & it isn't so fun anymore. As much as I tell myself that I shouldn't feel bad about the carbfests..seems old habits die hard. On the bright side, it helped drive me into a 5 day fast (currently 41 hours in & its going well so far). Then I have a family bbq to survive on Sunday (I WILL be on good eating behaviour) then I intend to go back into a fast, length tba but my goal is to drive toward my ideal weight and I will have about 3 weeks until my daughters bday. Another carbfest. This is truly the toughest time of the year for me as every occasion in my family is stacked between June 17th & Xmas. On the bright side I am walking everyday.

On to my most exciting news...If all goes as planned I will be getting a puppy in November!!! It was a week of highs & lows as I had planned initially to get a Beagle (rare find around here). 5 days after putting a deposit & seeing & sharing numerous pics of my choice, I was devastated when the seller called me & told me my pup & alternate choice were both males, not my females.Still not sure what happened there but I quickly backed out. If a seller with dog in hand can't tell a male from a female who knows what else might be wrong. But things happen for a reason I believe, including this. It made me reassess what breed I wanted & need for my situation & where to get it from. I have bought from a pet store (before the puppy mill horror stories) & from a non registered purebred breeder. Both situations turned out fine...but I'm finding not only are pple on market sites asking a lot more for dogs these days..its not just purebreds like it used to be & there's a lot of questionable sellers & breeders to sift through. Anyway, in the end I now plan on getting a female purebred basset hound from a world renowned breeder only 2 hours from me! At 59 with osteoporosis in my knee & stuck inside many days for 4 months of a year with hard winters, one of the breeds that requires 2 or more walks/runs a day wasn't going to suit my situation. Plus I need an affectionate breed, one friendly with other dogs (my daughter is getting an Aussiedoodle pup in August). My pup will be many things to me. Definitely a much needed companion for my introverted personality & lifestyle, an animal to help keep me mentally & physically active & a support dog, especially in the winter time which is a huge struggle for me mentally. So...deposit is paid and the wait begins!

Those family get-togethers are tough on the healthy eating habits aren't they Tenax661? Like you, I eat some of the nice treats and get then get back to healthier eating at home. My kids all have dogs of various breeds but all are pretty good-natured beasts. A basset pup will certainly keep you moving and will be a good friend when winter sets in. I find winters hard too, but getting outside every day for a half-hour walk and eating three meals with plenty of protein helped boost my mood. Taking vitamin D every day year-round was recommended by my family doctor. I bought some Nanospikes at MEC so could walk every day, freezing rain or icy roads. You're doing really well.
